So I'm taking biochem and 2 other classes this fall and I've been very lucky to have many interviews already. I thought I would just get maybe 2-3 so it wouldn't be a problem but there is a good chance I'm gonna miss 11-13 classes. I wouldn't mind studying hard and taking exams early but I'm not sure how receptive the professor is going to be. Does anyone have any good suggestions as to how to go about this? There are no makeup exams from what I hear.

You have 11-13 interviews? Wow! Congratulations. 🙂

Maybe you'll get into the school you love early and you can cancel your other interviews after that happens. Otherwise, won't those 11-13 days be spread out over two semesters (in the fall and the spring)?

My best advice would be just to talk to the professor and see what he/she thinks. For all you know, the professor could be very sympathetic to these sorts of things.

Well some weeks I have 2 interviews scheduled so it's not really spread out too much. I also have other classes so I'm a little worried. I might have applied to too many schools because of advice that I got. I def don't wanna cancel any until I have an acceptance in hand.

If the professor is not sympathetic should I drop the classes and try and complete them in the spring. It's a required class so I don't wanna risk not being able to take it before matriculation. I'm a non-trad so getting classes is actually very difficult for me.

Frankly, you should take greater responsibility for how you schedule your interviews. Even schools that assign you a date are open for requests to reschedule. If you are concerned, then schedule your interviews further apart. I know that many schools offer weekend interviews. Yes, sometimes you have to wait to interview later to grab a weekend slot, but that's a choice that you make as an applicant. Similarly, instead of interviewing at two schools in one week, you can schedule one every other week or one every week and make sure you are missing different parts of the week.

If you are worried about a particular class, you can reschedule your interviews such that they fall on different days (when you don't have the class) or such that you only miss one Monday, Tuesday, whatever per month. You can choose more expensive travel times (flying) to miss as little time as possible - it's up to you whether the extra money is worth the added convenience. When you get an II, you don't have to schedule an interview right away. I didn't schedule one of my interviews for a good month after I got it - nothing says you have to schedule right away - because convenient dates were not available. Again, would it be better to interview ASAP? Of course. You, however, are an adult with competing responsibilities and you need to figure out how you will balance those commitments.

I didn't realize schools offered weekend interviews. I also thought I had to schedule it asap per several emails that I got.

I'll try and reschedule some of them if I can. The reason I put 2 in one week is because id still only be missing one day of class.
Alternatively I just take it next semester

I'm worried about the same thing. Several of my schools have interviews only on Wednesdays, including one where I have an interview already and at least one or two more where an interview is likely due to state of residence, and I have a lab on Wednesdays. Where I go to school, missing two labs for any reason forces you to take an automatic F for the class. They don't allow make-ups either. I'm not allowed to switch lab sections right now... there's a tiny chance I may be able to once the school year starts, but it's not even close to a sure thing.

Not sure what to do :-/

I had this issue back in the day. In my experience, most professors were fine with it as long as you 1) let them know ASAP once you have the interview scheduled and 2) go out of your way to work around their schedule to make anything up. It would also be a good idea to talk to them early in the semester/quarter to let them know that you're applying to medical school and will likely need to miss some class days for interviews. See how they respond.

Obviously you don't want to fail your classes, but at the end of the day getting into medical school > your undergrad classes for the time being. Just don't be snooty or an ass about it and most people will be understanding. You're likely not the first person with this "problem."
