How to determine the direction of fluid flow?

For the preceding examples, how would I go about determining the direction of fluid flow? Examkrackers hasn't given us much information on this, aside from telling us that fluid goes in the direction of greater entropy and to "use our intuition".

BTW, the answer for both is b->a
 
Well, I guess for case #2 (the lower one), it'd depend on how much fluid was in each container. The entropy idea is that there is a larger space in A than B, thus a larger 'capability' if you will, for disorder -- more potential states. Thus higher entropy.
