How to do Anki?

I always hear about people doing anki, e.g. “I did Anki for an hour today,” but I don’t understand how to use anki. What do you do with it? It seemed really useful given how popular it seems. I have it downloaded to my computer but I still don’t understand it. How do I make the most of it?
