I just received my transcripts from my undergraduate institution and was wondering how to input some classes into AMCAS. My general chemistry lecture and lab are listed as the same course number and course name on my transcript. This is not a transcript error, as the course is also listed the same in my unofficial online transcript. These classes are a sequence over two semesters. This is what is listed on my transcript:

Fall 2007
CHEM 114 ComprehensiveGeneralChemistry
CHEM116 General Chemistry Laboratory

Spring 2008
CHEM 114 ComprehensiveGeneralChemistry
CHEM116 General Chemistry Laboratory

Will AMCAS be able to distinguish that I didn't repeat a class and recognize these classes as a sequence? Should I list exactly what is on the transcript, or should I put "Gen Chem I" and "Gen Chem II" on AMCAS so as to distinguish?

Thanks!

From the Instruction Manual:
Course Number and Course Name Enter the exact course name in English and the exact course number as they appear on the official transcript in the designated fields. If the exact course name does not fit, enter a logical abbreviation. This information is critical for AMCAS to verify each course on the official transcript and for the medical school(s) to evaluate your application. Course numbers should include all letters and numbers associated with the course, i.e., BIO 101. If a course number does not fit in the space provided, include the last eight digits. Decimal points, if part of the course number on your official transcript, should be included when entering the course number. Enter designations for all of your lab coursework exactly as they appear on the official transcript. If the lab credit is included with the lecture course credit, append the phrase "and Lab" to the exact course title as it appears on the official transcript. For example, if "General Chemistry II" appears on the official transcript and lab credit is included with the lecture course credit, enter "General Chemistry II and Lab" and select "Combined Lecture and Lab" in response to the question, "Did this course include a lab section?"

You should definitely add "and Lab" to the end of the course titles to designate the lab component. I'd say it wouldn't hurt to add I and II to the end, just to be clear.
