Lurker here but decided to break down my studying for SDN.

PAT 22, QR 19, RC 22, Bio 21, GC 23, OC 22, TS 22, AA 21

Study time: 3 Months, averaging about 8 hours a day. Have at least 400 hours studying because of no obligations. If you’re lazy you may want to make a schedule every day or plan out your week/study schedule. I didn’t follow anyone’s schedule I just did whatever I felt like. On the last week, I did pomodoro and woke up at 6AM and slept at 11PM every day.

I firmly believe my 21 is the result of making flashcards for EVERYTHING. I had about 4500 cards for everything. I went to staples and bought the packs of 1500 cards in each and cut them in half to get better. There were a lot of repeats but it helped solidify things in my head if the same thing comes up four times and you still haven’t learned it yet, just write it again. Also, you can read this breakdown but in the end you’ll have to do the work. You reap what you sow. You will eat, sleep, and dream about the DAT when you’re at this level of determination. You will know that you will kill it. Imagine yourself as an apex predator and the DAT is a small antelope. You can only kill it when you have practiced and honed down your skills.

Must Need These Materials for a 21: Feralis, Bootcamp, QVault, Destroyer, Math Destroyer, Chad’s Videos for Orgo and Chem (Quizzes included) You have to spend money to make money.

Finished tests: 5 bootcamp (10 bootcamp PAT), 10 Qvault, ADA 2007, ADA 2009.

First things first: watch every DAT video on youtube regarding PAT to get a good grasp on things.

Websites you must visit for bio: http://www.sumanasinc.com/webcontent/animations/biology.html, http://www.hippocampus.org/HippoCampus/Biology;jsessionid=EC5BF77463C903E38908FC0F412A9A4F , http://www.hbwbiology.net/quizzes-ap-review-main.htm , http://www.chem.ucalgary.ca/courses/350/Carey5th/Carey.html , http://www.chem.illinois.edu/clcwebsite/clctutorials.html , http://www.mcatprep.net/mnemMCAT.html

Preparation: It’s a marathon. You will get good over a long period of time, and nothing good ever comes easily. Study in your room if you want but don’t watch tv. If you’re lazy, go to the library so that you’ll be ashamed if you’re not studying. Change your environment if you want. Don’t listen to music while you study. Work out and stay healthy. I almost got sick a week before my exam and I forcibly suppressed it by eating meds and drinking lots of fluids.

Bio 21: Feralis’ notes although dense are extremely good for bio. The smallest thing can come up in your bio and Feralis is the way to go although some stuff was either too general. Destroyer was good too. I did destroyer twice. Made flashcards. Make sure to go over them. Q vault is awesome at this too because it reinforces things that you know but may overinflate your ego. Basically, CRAM everything in bio down your throat. If you ask yourself, “Why am I learning this?” chances are that the thing you’re studying WILL show up on the exam.

Chem 23: I went over Chad’s videos over 4 times. Made notes on notes on notes on notes and wrote down EVERYTHING he said. Every word this guy says is pure gold. I also did Chad’s quiz questions. Don’t hesitate to kill it or go overboard. DAT can and will test you on even the smallest subject that you might think is dumb. Destroyer chem was also helpful. I did it twice and made flashcards of questions. Memorize pertinent formulas and constants F=1.8C+32 and 0.0821 Latm/molk and 8.314J/molk. Qvault is pretty good for this section too but may overinflate your ego when you get high scores.

Orgo 22: I suck at orgo and managed to get a 22 because I beat myself up and forced myself to make study cards. Chad’s videos 4 times. Also made notes on notes on notes. Write down every word that comes out of his bald head. Also do the quiz questions. Qvault was a little too easy for orgo and Destroyer was on par with the questions. Don’t be discouraged if destroyer kills you the first time. What matters is what you do after. Get up and do it again until you get it. There are only a finite number of things that they can ask you. Do the same thing for orgo and chem.

PAT 22: I was averaging 20 on Bootcamp. Qvault tests were too easy. Bootcamp was on par. Practice with the generators, but I found that there were some repeats. Watch the videos on youtube about PAT. Kill the PAT by doing a section every day. JUST PRACTICE. No way around this since this section is based on yourself. What you should be doing is practicing in order to kill it.

RC 22: I got around 22 on all the Bootcamp exams, Qvault exams, and read a new scientific American on my computer every week in my free time to prep for some pretty boring stuff. I’m pretty good at reading so this section was no prob. My method was a modded search and destroy. I numbered my sheet 1-20 and wrote down paragraph summaries accordingly. Then did search and destroy.

QR: 19 I ran out of time because I was so mentally fatigued. Bootcamp and Qvault all the way. I only finished 7 tests on Math destroyer and everything in the regular destroyer, but rest assured you need to do more than me. This was my Achilles heel and it bothered me for a LONG TIME. Don’t skimp on it.

Let me know via PM if any of you are interested in my stuff.

I’ll update with my test conditions and how I took it if anyone is interested.

Also, what are my chances? I have the baseline requirements (shadowing, research) and an upward trend from Cs and Bs to As and an oGPA 3.5, sGPA 3.25, and DAT 21.

Very nice scores and consistent scores! Congratulations! You DAT scores are on target, you science GPA is a little on the low side so I would call the schools you are interested in attending and discuss your situation.

I am pleased you found our materials were helpful and you should be proud of those score, you put in the hard work.

Dr. Jim Romano and Nancy Steen

You should figure out your reasons for going into dentistry.
Not saying you shouldn't do it but if you are only doing it because you got rejected from med school, it will be pretty evident.

Great scores! Good breakdown thanks for that. My question is IF you don't get in what profession is next?
AY whats your problem man? he's tryin to help you and you just insult him? if you dont have anythig nice to say dont say it at all and you're supposed to be a healthcare provider smh

I don't see what's wrong with what I said because it's an honest question that I have. OP swapped from med to dent just because no acceptance was given from medical schools. What's next. We all have the choice of giving someone a thumbs up or giving an honest opinion. The comment wasn't meant to attack the OP it was just meant to really make the OP think if dentistry is for the OP.

Okay well it sounded like you were looking down on op because it sounds like he switched, which a lot of people do in the course of their lives. the doc i shadowed owned a fortune 500 company before he switched to dentistry and told me that most people change jobs a couple of times in their careers. we good tho no harm done to the op

Great scores. Thank you for the breakdown! Also, I love the quoted part above^.

Why are people making such a big deal over what OP's career choices entail? Who cares if he switched? A lot of people do, especially realizing it last minute; I did too. Nothing to be judged about. I'm sure OP knows what is best for them. Congrats on the hard work, you can tell it payed off- very inspirational!
