I was wondering if anyone has advice or strategies that have worked for them on how to get back into studying when they start med school.

I ask as I will be starting school in a couple months having been in basic research for the last 3 years

I would say, get your sleep cycle in order, make exercise routine, and enjoy the rest of summer.

Once school starts, you will figure out your own way to study. Most importantly, get enough sleep and take good care of yourself. Good luck.

Have you already chosen your courses?

I'd pick subjects that are easy for you, for the first term, if you can.

It took me a couple of semesters to figure out my hacks - I made it way harder than it needed to be, initially.

Basically though, would say:

- stay on top of readings; do weekly reviews. Be as consistent as you can

- choose note-taking and organizational methods early, and stick with them (e.g., laptop vs handwritten notes; writing in the margins vs taking notes in a separate document).

What screwed me up for a bit initially was integrating the PowerPoint slides/handouts that everyone seems to use these days; I'm pretty old-school.

- plan/prioritize study/coursework backwards from due dates; weight assignments and study time according to percentage value of final grade

- give yourself more time than you think you need for exams. try to avoid cramming if you can

- expect to procrastinate, a bit, account for that too

- break study into 25 minute chunks - use a timer

- agree: don't let up on fitness activities - they'll help you think, feel, sleep, eat, digest better, making you a more effective robot

- caffeine

Also: internet blocking things (I like WasteNoTime for mac)
