I've got no issues with the concepts.. but its when i start learning more than 5 or 6 drugs that the details all start to merge and i cant remember a thing.

I've always hated memorizing, but have been able to get through anatomy and gen path since there was always a visual to go with it..

Im not quite sure how i got through half of 2nd year.. but the USMLE (and pharm shelf) is scaring the pants off of me b/c i can't remember any of the drugs i learned even last BLOCK. Ive been able to get thru pharm by making tables and then reading it RIGHT before our exam.. and usually enough facts/word associations stick so that I can pass the test.. this might work for a block, but i dont think this will work with the volume of drugs that will apear on the shelf...

Any ideas?

thanks!

Some of my friends make up stories.

For example "furosemide" sounds like "furious ride" (like a roller coaster) so that way you can remember its a loop diuretic. The guy on the rollercoaster is so scared he's peeing his pants (diuretic), he's losing magnesium (think of the "Magnum") and calcium from his blood stream. Side effects: the rollercoaster is loud and he can't hear (ototoxicity) and his heart is pounding (arrythmias).

They would even draw a picture with all the visual cues.

I don't think these things are that easy to remember unless you think them up yourself.

I made handwritten notes and diagrams. I like making up those little stories but I only do it when I'm studying with friends for some reason.

jeez. thats pretty good.. unfortunately i'm not that creative in making up these mnemonic devices.. but i can see how helpful it would be to talk through these with friends.. would certainly make it 'fun' studying pharm..

I wonder if there are a database or something of these on the web:-D

Pretty sharp I must say.
