Would like critique on how I am choosing schools to apply to.

1. I check the MCAT score range. If my score falls between the 10-90 percentile, I look into it.

2. I then check the out of state student proportion. If they accept 25% of their class out of state, I select the school.

What other factors do I need or are these two enough?

Thanks guys!

I would think that if your GPA/MCAT are slightly above school averages, it would be a good option. Id also look at their mission statements to see what they value in applicants and see if your ECs are tailored to that. You can also check out the secondary threads on those schools which you may be interested in and check out what kinds of questions they may be asking. If you're looking to avoid answering any particular question for whatever reason this is also a good place to look.

This is a good start but you should also look at how you fit their mission. If you just read mission statements, a lot of them look the same. But if you do more research you may find that a school has an emphasis on service or research and most of their students have strong experience in that area. Or maybe they care about serving their region and that 25% OOS is people in neighboring states. Or maybe they want students interested in primary care.
