Hi,
Do anyone know how to go from New York City to New Jersey dental school by train/subway? because I live in Brooklyn, NY, I don't have a car and no one will give me a ride on the date of my first interview. 🙁

i'm assuming you're trying to get to UMDNJ.

another option is to take the subway over to WTC and transfer to the PATH train. that'll take you to newark. not sure how to get to the school specifically but i'm sure there are buses or taxis. that part you'll have to research yourself... unless someone else knows.

you said you live in brooklyn, how come you don't know public transportation... didn't you get briefed on it in like, elementary school? 🙂

Rent a car with extra fee for being under 25? I hate to sound unsympathetic, truly, but I spent a crap load of money on gas driving down from Buffalo to Richmond alone. That woud prob cost the same as NY to NJ rental car. Most have to do something like that.

Being from BK, i'm sure you know how to get to penn station/WTC. plug into the trip planner this origin and UMDNJ's address. You'll spend all of about $7 roundtrip + $4 (metrocard)

Yeah it's really easy once u get into to Newark. Its literally in the college district(UMDNJ , ESSEX,NJIT,and Rutgers). They are all within walking distance of eachother, if you can get to Penn and take the 60cent city subway down to lock st.(in Newark) all you will have to do is walk two or three blocks up, and u can see UMDNJ sign from Lock.

I took the PATH train to Newark Penn Station. It wasn't as fast as NJ Transit, but trains run very frequently at rush hour so I didn't have to fret about arriving at New York Penn Station on time for a NJ Transit train. Total cost of $1.50. Be prepared with a pay-per-ride MetroCard.

There are plenty of taxis at Newark Penn Station -- just follow the signs in the station to "Taxis." I would recommend taking a taxi from the station to the school, to make sure that you arrive on time. Total cost (with tip) of ~$10. To get back to the station from the school, there is a NJ Transit bus that takes you straight there (look for the bus shelter near the student apartments). I don't know anything about the subway, but I'm sure that it is good, too.

Oh, and P.S. -- PATH trains denote their directions of travel in the form of relatively small light-up signs with the abbreviated names of destination stations on the front and sides of the trains. Just a heads-up, since it can be terribly confusing. Study the map carefully before going...

i think the school has a shuttle that goes from newark penn station--where the PATH will drop you off--to different parts of the umdnj campus. i think you'd want to get off at the 12th ave stop, which is the front of the dental school, close to one of the last stops. you may need to bring your interview letter with you to get on the shuttle, although i was never asked for anything during the course of my internship there. call the office to double check.

i don't recommend the subway. i'm sure you know how to get to path from brooklyn, take path to newark penn. get taxi to UMDNJ on 12th ave (between bergen and w. market). you'll see the campus and NJDS, big gray building and big windows, pretty new. should be ~$10 or less with tip (depending on traffic). to get back, just ask the employees where to get the NJ transit bus (i think <$2) to newark penn, or get another taxi back to newark penn. hope that was detailed enough👍
good luck!
