I'm stumped....

How do you handle letters of rec. that don't go through your Pre-Med Committee? My pmed secretary told me today that she used to just put those in with the rest in the committee letter...but now she doesn't.

I have two Doc's who are writing me (supposedly) stellar recs-do they give those to me and then I send them to schools who (hopefully) send secondaries?

Thanks to all who help out so much here!!!

🙂

NO! ... NO! ... and NO! (extra no's thrown in for work count reqs 🙁 )

madrigail-

If your school won't take the letters, you have to get the professors to send the letters to the schools directly. Schools WILL NOT take letters sent by students. The best thing to do is to send the professors that are pre-stamped with the schools' addresses and have them send the letters to the schools. Also, make sure not to put your return address on the envelopes. You cannot have any contact with the letters. Hope this helps.

I assume you had to sign a letter removing any and all rights to view the letters for your pmcommittee... I suggest having copies of those for the letters that bypass the committee.

You can also use an Internet-based portfolio manager, for example Interfolio. These allow your recommenders to submit their letters and then you request the letters to be sent where you need. Basically the portfolio manager replaces the pre-med committee as the middle man.
There will be a small fee involved, but it may be easier than repeatedly providing all your writers with addressed envelopes.

Thank you all so much! My pmed advisor is absolutely no help at all...I think just 'cause he teaches O-chem the Dept. Chair thought he should advise pre-professional students. Bah! Bad Idea!

I'm really thankful there are people here who know the game and who don't mind helping out

🙂 😀
