A couple of times, I've had a former PI pay me to help revise/edit grant applications (of the NIH variety). These weren't applications that I was named in, so they don't fit under my general "grants" section on my CV, but people have told me that this would be a good thing to have on my CV as a new faculty or post-doc applicant nonetheless. What would be the best way to list this experience?

Thanks.

Perhaps a "consulting" section? That seems the best "umbrella term" for that type of activity and you could describe it in a bit more detail.

Gosh, I should've had this skill listed on my CV for years. I sort of do, but it's listed as one of many duties under my former employment (i.e., grant writing/editing) for those PIs.

Not you, Futureapppsy2, but if someone were not paid to "consult"/work on proposed grants, I would err on the side of making it appear as though you were a "paid consultant." Just my two cents.

I agree with Ollie…."Consulting" is a nice catch all. Come to think of it…I need to do this too.

Agreed x4. It's not something I'd yet really be able to add (unless I use some significant creativity/flexibility), but it'll now be good to keep in my back pocket for once it's becomes more appropriate.

See, the reason I want list this separately is because it occurred after I left the position to start grad school, so it doesn't fit without screwing up the job dates or making it look like I somehow lived in two places several hundred miles apart at once. 😉

Thanks all--looks like I'll add a "consulting" heading next time I update my CV.

A consulting section seems like a good idea, but for what it's worth, I have similar experiences listed on my CV under the heading "Service to the Field."
