Hello everyone. I am wondering what advice you experienced people would have for someone who imagines a difficult time witnessing neurosurgery next week. I am scheduled to shadow and I am a bit nervous. I watched some neurosurg videos online and I can handle it, but it's still pretty jolting. Is it normal to be revolted at first and does it go away? What can I do to overcome this fear? Please help.

it definately goes away very quickly. I about fainted the first time I looked at my cadaver, then, just yesterday, I ate 6 slices of pizza while I watched a video of a hysterectomy. Not too shaby, ehh?

Eat a good breakfast and don't lock your knees when standing for extended periods. Also, resist the urge to get completely wasted the night before.

And if you do pass out or puke, just consider it another milestone in your gradual road to desensitization. It won't ever be that bad again...

I agree...eat a good breakfast. Also, keep some sort of hard candy in your pocket. That way, if the surgery goes for a while and you start to feel your blood sugar get low you can pop one in and have something to suck on.

NAAH, I SUGGEST YOU TAKE A MINIMUM OF 2 GLASSES OF HARD LIQUOUR. U WILL MOVE INTO A EUPHORIC STATE. I THINK THAT WILL HELP. BELIEVE ME, IT WILL BE LESS BLOODY AS COMPARED TO OTHER TYPES OF SURGERY
