Hi everyone! Incoming MS1 here. I'm looking for advice from current med students on how to set boundaries in medical school to allow for a good work-life balance. I have always been the type to study non-stop...literally until the exam is handed to me. I will be attending a P/F school which I'm happy about but as a studyholic, I know I'll have to get organized with my time and force myself to stop studying after a certain point if I want a life outside of medicine. I am currently in a relationship and really want to make sure I can still spend time with my partner. Any tips?

One day off a week, try and stick to a "clock-out" study time during the week.
P/F life will be easier to organize after your first set of tests, s you'll have an idea of what your expectations are.

Open discussion with your partner. First thing I did with my wife was let her know my exam schedule so she was aware of the weeks when I would probably be consumed by study. Your study habits will evolve as you get past the first few exams and you see how you're doing. Also, it helps to find a group to study with. Even if you're just all sitting in the same study room, headphones in, cramming away, it provides a barometer to how crazy you're going and gives you needed social interactions.

I agree with the one day off a week suggestion. When you pick which day you’ll be off, stick to it and don’t feel guilty about it!
