I know recent ophtha graduates who started their solo practice. They always talk about the difficulties of starting out and so there's a desire to engage in a group practice. This has always been a common topic during conversations among young ophthalmologists but it seems like no one really knows how to properly do it. starting out a medical practice or the business side of a medical practice is not really taught in medical school or residency. Also, medical practice management companies are not really popular, if it exists, from where I am from.
