How to tell classmates to grow a set of balls without antagonizing everyone?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You don't. Just go about your business.

Remind them that they are in pharmacy school - not undergrad

Benjamin Buford Blue said to Forrest..

"Forrest, you lean on me...I lean on you right back"

Your classmates will be your collegues for life one way or another.. Don't be the guy they'll remember as the guy who turned on them.

🙄

I'm wondering the same thing, glad I'm not the only one. Seriously, people complain left and right....some of it warranted, some of it not.

I'll just talk **** in generalities with people who I know aren't complaining, maybe it'll get around.

Yeah actually...who cares? Just ignore them and don't join in. Live and let live.

simple, make fun of people when they start to whine

why does their complaining bother you?

and, are you 100% completely and totally happy in school?

no one is

Right, so basically most of the class is whining about there being too much work, professors putting stuff online, e-mailing us about it, then quizzing us the next day, commuting problems, etc.

How do I tell them to grow the **** up without antagonizing them?

simple. I chose to antagonize them. I let it be known that I thought they were a bunch of whiny bitches.

Grow a set of balls yourself and tell them they are being immature or just let it go.

It sounds like my pharmacy program! I'm soooo glad to be done with school!!

I'm not completely happy, and I agree that some of the professors are quite disorganized but I don't complain to the deans about the professors, that's what end of semester evaluations are for.

Evaluations and feedback should be ongoing and proactive, not retrospective, in my opinion. Everyone has one, and they're all paying the same tuition you are (for the most part), so just tune out and let the kiddos complain... I don't understand why their complaining is problematic for you, unless it is impacting coursework in a negative manner.

We had a meeting with the Dean, just a big empty gesture with catered food, nothing changed, please try not to worry about it, don't think administrators really give a fig, probably not even listening...

Well if the professors can't finish their lectures, then I end up having to read everything myself. I seriously think that people aren't paying attention because the same damn question gets asked over and over again. Professor explains a concept, someone's hand goes up, question answered, we go to the next slide, someone's hand goes up and asks to go back to the last slide and explain it one more time.

I can sympathize with that. On the other hand, you're paying around 50k or more per year for your education, if there's something that you don't understand, you should probably ask questions.

Sometimes there are legitimate concerns about certain professors or unfair/plain bad teaching that needs to be addressed. If it's 10 people who fails a test out of 200, then it's likely that it's an issue with those 10 people. If there are 170 people who failed an exam, there are likely to be some concerns that needs to be addressed.

If you have legitimate concerns, letting the deans know by the end of the semester would probably be a bit late. But going to the deans should be an absolute last resort.

Of course there are always people who just hangs around and whines a lot without legitimate reason. Just avoid them, they'll likely fail.

Oh, when I have questions, I ask questions. I just wait until the end of lecture and go talk to the professor, or I go to the professor's office later.

That's definitely annoying. After a few times, I'd say there should be optional reviews before the exam and/or students attending office hours. There's no way 100+ folks could be tutored in a lecture hall to everyone's satisfaction.

I was always annyoed when folks would ask the easiest questions, and not focus on the stuff I would be asking about. Everyone seems to have a different game plan.

Chances are, if something is unclear to you, it may be unclear to someone else as well. There's nothing wrong with a few questions during the lecture, but I agree that when everyone asks the same question during a lecture, that would eat up a lot of time.

Yeah, that's true, but its usually the same person asking questions every lecture. I'm starting to wonder if this person was implanted with an ask questions chip.

We have the same thing and it is usually 1 or 2 people. But they ask questions that does not even matter at that time and are things that would be more appropriatet to ask the professor after class then slowing down the other 130 of us and causing us not to get through the material.
However, I am totally ok when people ask questions about things that are complicated or that the professor did not cover clearly.

If it bothers you so much you need to bow up and grow your own pair and let them know what you think. I know it's hard if you don't know them well but if you don't speak to them anyways what do you really care.
