How to tell which schools 'fit

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Stanford has a curriculum that can be tailored to your specific interests, with "scholarly interests."

Mayo has a similar deal, with "selectives" or protected time to do nearly anything you want (within bounds) medically related. This could be used for research in ID if you wanted.

Ask someone you know who is involved with ID where the best programs are. Also, do a search of journals and see where the most interesting/cutting-edge ID publications are coming from.

Not sure about others. I'm sure there are some more out there.

I agree, start with the MSAR, talk to people, and pay attention to what you see if you get to interview.

Honestly, there's no way to know everything about a school until you're about a semester in. Finding a medical school that 'fits' is like finding an undergrad that 'fits'. It's an imperfect art.

I don't think you can judge what fits you based on a book. I think you'll just have to choose a school that you like and hope it fits.

just know something about the school. there had to be a reason you applied there, whether it's close to home, a strong program for some certain reason, etc. most people don't choose which schools to apply to at random.

I would just not be ignorant. Don't tell them you really want to go to Vanderbilt because you really want to live in Kentucky..
