I can't get through 130 minutes of intense thinking without coffee. No way. Going to be drinking a lot of strong coffee before I take the test.

So how should I time it so I don't have to pee during the first two sections?

You should have drank coffee during your AAMC FL to see if you could hold it in for 70-60-70 minutes. That's the best way imo. If you're done with AAMC tests just drink however much you would drink now and see if you could hold it in for 70-pee-60-pee-70-finish

Wait, so you are allowed to take a restroom break between PS and verbal?

If I wanted to take one during my break would that be cool? Not sure if they frisk you when you go into the testing center, but I would just put a pill in my lunch bag. Don't want them thinking it is drugs.

Eh I wouldn't risk it. I haven't taken the MCAT, but when I took the GRE they frisked me and made me turn out my pockets, lift my pant legs up, the whole nine yards.

How long does a strong cup of coffee last you? Since the half life of caffeine is at least 3 hours in the body (if not 5 or 6 in some people) seems like 200mg would get you through the test...but I guess it depends on how acclimated your body is to moderate to high does caffeine and how much it takes to make you feel it.

Just don't take too much either though. Once caffeine gets to a certain point (depending on tolerance) it starts to have a negative effect on concentration and performance.

Wurd.

I'd say one 200mg tablet before the test should be good enough.

And honestly the best option would be to wean yourself off caffeine completely before the test and get in a habit of sleeping 8 hours a night (or whatever the optimum amount is for you) on a regular schedule. Do that and your concentration and alertness abilities will be way better that by pounding coffee every day.

But that is probably too much to ask...and sorry I know you didn't come here for health advice haha

So I'd still say go for the box of NoDoz then...

As soon as this semester ends, starting training for a marathon and drinking way less caffeine.

But right now I got 15 credits, a job, three volunteering places, club activities and MCAT prep. I drink like a pot or more a day. Hence wanting two pills.

I have a monstrously high tolerance for caffeine for my age. Need to cut back eventually, but not now.

...drinking way less caffeine...

They'll have to pry my coffee cup from my cold, dead hands. When old age and senility have robbed me of the names of my children and wife, I'll still be insisting the nursing home aide push some pure 100% columbian shade-grown goodness into my IV drip.

Here's the thing about drugs: whatever you're going to do on Test Day, set up a routine that you can acclimate to for at least two months beforehand. I don't tell my students what their routine should be, that's for them to decide - but I do insist they practice it every day for two months.

Think you can get some sort of pharmaceutical edge with ADD meds? Okay I don't really approve but if you're going to do it, you HAVE to do it every single day for two months.

Going to go off caffeine? Well okay, vaya con dios, but you have to do it for two months beforehand.

Just get your body into a comfortable homeostasis and stick with that on Test Day.
