Hi, everyone. So I am done with Gen chem review. I want to start destroyer. I have Destroyer 2017 and I don't know how to use it.

I mean my idea is. I should solve 30 gen chem questions or 20 questions each day. ( like mini tests)

I heard people saying stuff like the first 100 questions you will get a lot of wrong answers and then you get better and learn from your mistakes.

So my questions are:

  • Are the question given in random orders but the concept get repeated every now and a then? For example, if I missed some concepts in the first 100 questions, similar ideas will be repeated in later questions.
  • Or are the concepts of each question unique and the only chance I get to experience similar question is by repeating the one I got wrong later on?

For what it's worth, here's what I did. I did around 30-40 questions per day in all 3 subjects and I completed destroyer twice using tons of looseleaf paper. You can do more or less depending upon how many days you have until you take the DAT and how many problems are in your version of destroyer. I would then go over each problem and honestly assess whether I knew the answer. Then, for the ones I got wrong, I would mark them and write explanations [on the looseleaf] for the underlying concepts. I would repeat this every day and if I forgot a concept/type of problem, I would go back to my sheets of paper and review. Eventually you will complete destroyer for the first time, so now you should go over it again like you did before. Make sure to compare which problems you got right/wrong with the looseleaf sheets from your first and second times. If you get the same problem wrong twice, you really need to review that concept/type of problem and make sure you understand it.

As far as your questions go...
-Yes, concepts are frequently repeated. This is because they are high-yield for test day
-Low-yield topics will be mentioned maybe once or twice

Thank you so much for explaining your way of using the destroyer. It seems like a very thorough way to study this book.
and good to know that some of the concepts get repeated.

I second what Maga said. Also, no matter how hard a question in destroyer is... don't ever deceive yourself with the idea of destroyer is an overkill and I will never see this type of problem on the DAT. Been there, done it, and the question was on the exam, they just changed the numbers 🙁.

I'm using destroyer 2016, I made a google doc for each subject to write my mistakes . I review my mistakes every few days and then everything gets a little easier
