sorry this might be a dumb question, but how did you go about using destroyer? it looks like it's just a whole bunch of questions not divided up by sections. did you finish studying for a subject and then used destroyer? or did you find and pick out questions along the way?

I think destroyer is very hard. I can't even touch it without studying enough.

I only used it for the gen chem and qr. some of the stuff is too hard, but most of it is not.
I would study everything and when you feel you know it pretty well do the destroyer. It will give you areas where you need to work on and make you familiar with typical problems asked on the dat.

Only use destroyer after you have studied. Its great for practicing actual problems and seeing where your strengths and weakness are..

Its great for bio for random facts, I bought it primarily for bio, I think its ochem is too indepth for the DAT..except for the organic roadmaps in the answer key..they are awesome

the genchem is ok i guess..alot of people swear by it..

I havent looked at the math yet

Using destroyer and cliffs AP bio, my practice tests in bio have gone from 17-18 to 19+ So I think its working so far

The thing to remember is, make sure you understand all the answer choices and why the question is wrong or right

dont just do 40 questions..get 10 wrong and be like ok im set..because thats not how your going to improve

Just to add on.. the destroyer is not meant as a teaching guide so don't expect to learn the material from the destroyer. It's for the student who has a strong background in the sciences. But once you know the material it's an amazing book that can really help you........deff review the orgo roadmaps

I agree, I think you should understand the basics 1st, either Kaplan or your college textbooks. Then afterwards start doing Destroyer, if you still dont understand the questions, just go back to your textbooks. Hope this helps.

I found destroyer to be exremely helpful. Yes, the first time I tried to do the problems, it was terrifying. But here's what helped me deal with destroyer problems:

For G-Chem:
*********
-I quickly went over the 12 chapters in KAPLAN.
-After getting down the basics, I started on solving problems in destroyer.
-I marked the problems I couldn't solve.
- After going through all questions, I went back and did them all over again, this time paying more attention to the questions I marked.
**I did all the G-chem problems 4 times.
After completing that, the stuff on the actual DAT was a piece of cake.
DAT Score: 24

O-chem:

Don't even waste time reading the KAPLAN book. The reactions mentioned in KAPLAN are hardly a fraction of all the reactions you need to know in order to score above 20 on the real test.
Personally, I went back to my notes. I memorized all the reactions. It took me a good 2-3 weeks.
After getting down all the reaction schemes, I came back to destroyer.
Again, I used the same strategy. I did all the questions 4 times, each time paying more attention to the questions I missed last time.
DAT Score: 23

Bio:

Again, KAPLAN only gives you the general idea; it does not by any means provide you with the details you need to get a decent score on the real test. Nevertheless that was the only resource I used. Then I started doing destroyer. Then I read the answers to each question throughly. Sometimes I googled the topics I didn't understand.
DAT Score: 21

Overall, I think destroyer might be a bit harder than the real test. But if you get those questions down, then the real test should be easy.

Hope this helps...

Best of luck to you!!

Great post bud. I just did the first 40 destroyer problems and got my butt kicked. I'm gonna do the same thing you did.

Hang in there! You'll see the improvement of your scores over the next few weeks, provided that you put in the necessary effort! And you will thank yourself for all the time you spent and all the agony you went through in order to complete destroyer, after you come out of the exam.

Good Luck👍
