how well do you have to do on step 2...

Save your time and don't bother applying to gas, your scores are just too low for this year's applicant pool. 🙂

USMLE step 1 227 will apply for 2008 match. Should I take Step 2 early and release to programs? All honors on rotations so far...

fogot to mention...I am D.O. student- does that make a difference with programs? Do I have more to prove by showing my step 2 score?
thanks

I have a 206 step 1, thinking of taking step 2 early (end of July) so my scores will be available by sept 1. . . does that sound like a good idea? I'm assuming I need to take step 2 early since my score is mediocre😕

That depends. If you are happy with going to a small program, I don't think you should retake.

However, if you want a shot at the bigger university programs, then definately take the Step 2.

You must also consider that 206 is a little on the lower side of the Step 1. If you are going to take the Step 2, make sure you study, and study hard for it. If you by chance have a bad day and you don't pass the Step 2, you'd be in trouble since those scores would be submitted at the time of your application.

Good luck.

i had a similar step 1, took step 2 early and added about 30 points to the score. programs noticed and it made it that much easier to explain away a mediocre step 1 score.

as already mentioned, study hard for step 2 and you will likely find it easier than step 1. pick one book (i used crush step 2) and learn it inside and out. don't waste time with notes - just reread your book several times and pound out a ton of questions and you should have no problem.

Thank you both for your comments, it sounds encouraging. I was actually planning on going over topics during the year and then just going through first aid, crush the boards, and practice q's for 4 weeks straight in july. For instance, I'm on psych this month, so on the weekends I'm going through step up medicine cardio, next month will be pulmonary, followed by GI and Neuro. I took really good notes for OB so I ocassionally flip back through those and case files, just to have everything fresh for when I trip down my studying to just q's, crush the boards and first aid. . . is that trying to accomplish too much? The reviewing medicine part has helped on my shelf exams since I've honored 2 of them since starting my review. . . What do you all think?

Sorry my mistake

all that review is good and will help, but seriously, take two weeks off before the exam and re-read one review text over and over. step 2 seemed to be very straightforward without many 'zebra' situations.
