I'm taking a fairly difficult philosophy class this semester and I'm really considering dropping it and taking it later on (like senior year, with a different professor) because today I received my first grade in the class (and before I say what I got, let me mention that there are only two tests and a final; the tests are in-class essays and the first test was very difficult) and it turns out I got a B. Under different circumstances I wouldn't worry too much about a B but I feel as though I just barely managed to get that B and philosophy in general isn't my strong suit. I was thinking that I could take philosophy later on with a professor who doesn't make the essays in-class. At the same time, I don't know how medical schools look at withdrawals.

whats your overall gpa ? it won't count in your more important science gpa so if your gpa is still good i don't know if i would recommend withdrawing. its not like you are failing

classes like that can be extremely frustrating. they are a bit too subjective in my opinion. my ethics class was similar. no matter what i tried writing on those stupid essays, i couldn't get higher than a B+

“So, fitnessgram, you reported a W on your transcript. Was there any reason in particular you withdrew?”

“I was scared I wasn’t gonna make an A”

*reject*

If this doesn’t sound good to you, then it won’t sound good to the interviewers that ask you about it.

I would hope OP would have more sense than to say that as a reason. Something along the lines of overextended yourself and needed a class to drop would be more acceptable.
