Hello everyone. I am a Canadian applicant and have a question that has been bothering me. I will be applying next year to get into dental school in the fall of 2009. The Canadian DAT is only offered in Nov and Feb. If I apply to Dental school in the US for the beggining of Fall 2009 matriculation, when and which DAT should I write so my application is complete and when do I apply? I am soo confused right now. Any help will be greatly appreciated. You see, if I write the DAT of the cycle I am applying for, will it be too late for an interview as people get interviews in the fall? Do people get interviews in the winter? Thanks

I think applying early really helps...esp because you generally get early interviews, and early admission... so I would take the DAT in Feb, because Nov might be kinda late. But you can always take it in Feb and if you have to re-take it, then take it in Nov.

I am Canadian. I took the american DAT in calgary. You can take it up there and if your applying to american schools just do that.

Worst case scenario if you don't feel ready to take it in FEB you could go sign up for the DAT in the states and cross the border and take it(write it) in the good ol' USA. You could schedule it for June/July '09 and be just fine. That way you could apply early and get early interviews.

There are Thompson Prometric sites in Canada where you can take the American DAT any day you want. I was looking into taking it in Calgary, AB. Don't know if this helps, but go to thompsonprometric.com to find if there's a testing center near you.

Thank you very much everyone. So I guess my best bet would be to write the American DAT, not the Canadian. When you guys said to write the February DAT, was it for Febreuary coming up in 6 weeks or for next year?

My current GPA is both science and everything else is a 3.43. With these grades, my application to dental schools will not even pass the first cut offs regardless of whatever else I did like shadowing, volunterring, DAT scores. They are brutal here. My cousin got into toronto this year and the incoming class average was a 3.9. Same at McGill. Most of the other schools look at their provincial students more and the states seems to be the most welcoming and helpful place where you can look for a future with a little less grades than Canada. Thanks anyways everyone

is "write" the fancy canadian word for "take"? 'Cause you're not actually writing the test.

Yeah if you are going to take the DAT in FEB take it in 2008 so that when you apply on May 15th you can have your DAT scores ready to go to the schools your applying to. Or like I said before take the American DAT and do it in MAY/JUNE/JULY, whichever suits you better.

Just on a personal note, I got out of school in mid april and studied until I took it on May 30th. I am glad I did that because I got sick of studying my guts out and worrying.

I suggest taking it in Feb 2008 as well... and take the Canadian DAT! Why would you wanna miss the opportunity to carve
