Sure it isn't as good as a clinical job, but would doing bench work look favorably?

A job is a job. Like any other job, it shows that you are responsible and can support yourself. Hell, even a job in customer service looks good. After all, as a physician you will be serving customers/patients and it shows that you have people skills -- that is something that is needed in the field of health care. 👍
