Here is the question in my general chemistry mcat review books: In regards to melting points, which would melt higher: aniline (aminobenzene) or phenol (hydroxybenzene) and why?

How would I answer this question without knowing O-chem and only knowing general chemistry? Whats the answer?

i'd say hydroxybenzene because, while both can hydrogen bond, oxygen is more electronegative and will have more polarized bonding and hence stronger bonds.
