Most important thing to be is I want to be at a place where I am happy. Simple as that. Cost is not as important an issue because I expect to be in debt for a long time after school.

Personally:

1. Cost
2. Impression post interview
3. Location
4. Curriculum
5. Reputation

I’m not really interested in Dermatology, ENT, Orthopedics, or academic medicine/research. Therefore, reputation isn't really a huge factor for me. I would rather lessen my loans and attend a school where I will be most comfortable. From what I hear, medical school is no picnic, so I'd rather make the experience as less invasive as possible by attend a school with a prime location, integrated curriculum, and where I think I will be happiest. 😉

For me,

1. Reputation
2. girls....i mean study body
3. location
4. Curriculum
5. Impression post interview
6. Cost

Reputation is first because I want to attend a school I will be pround of (call me materialistic or whatever...)

Cost is last because to me $125K in debt is the same thing as $100K in debt.

1. Other (relationship/partner)
2. Impression post interview
3. Cost
4. Reputation
5. Curriculum

Agreed, but more frequently the comparison is usually the tradeoff between one's homestate public school and a more highly-ranked private institution. Which would really frame the pertinent comparison as incurring (example, of course) $100k of debt at the former vs. $200k at the latter. Cost becomes a much more important factor here, whereas it is essentially moot between institutions of similar category, public or private, which is more along the lines of your example.

1. Location (relationship, cost, and CA sunshine!)
2. Impression post interview (you got to like the school)
Curriculum
3. Reputation (I'd like a good residency)
4. Curriculum (I'm sure they're all pretty good. If one sounds particularly bad, I'm sure that it's actually better than it sounds and was structured a certain way for a reason.)
