penn state hershey is a solid cut above the rest of your programs. definitely an elite program. after that, probably UT houston.

Based upon my knowledge of these... (which is fairly limited)
1. SLR
2. Albert Einstein
3. Penn St.
4. Drexel
5. UPMC -Mercy
6. UT Houston
- don't know anything about the rest

Pane, any reason you ranked Mercy 1st? Bit of a smaller program compared to Houston, Penn State. I remember interviewing there, and they didn't exactly strike me as an amazing program, at least not worth ranking above the other big ones. There's some competition in Pittsburgh for cases, and I got the feeling they weren't the top of the pack.

OP, last I heard Shreveport was having problems with accreditation. I think they were actually suspended a couple years back.

For everyone else thinking you can get solid answers from random strangers on how to rank your list, I would say you are probably better off arranging the list randomly. I bet if you got 100% participation from forum members, you would get (x!) number of lists. If you have spent several hours at each of these programs and still can't figure it out, you should choose one criteria and rank based on that alone. Geography, didactics, clinical cases, size, whatever. Anything has to be better than asking total *anonymous* strangers how you should spend the next 4 years of your life based on what they have heard from their friends or what they think about a city.

If you can't choose based on one isolated criteria, then I'd say it really doesn't matter how you rank your list. You really don't know what you want, in which case you will not be satisfied anywhere.

In the end, though, you'll be an anesthesiologist.

You pulled out the ! ... haven't seen that since stats class back in undergrad.

PS for those who dont know... ex: 5! = 5x4x3x2x1 ; 9! = 9x8x7x6x5x4x3x2x1

Completely agree with Mista on this one. Shreveport is in trouble...have an inside source there 🙂

You think they would have sent out notice that they changed program directors recently. They changed after I had interview and only realized it by looking at a power point they sent with the jump drive. Granted I like the new program director, but still would have been nice to have been told

I have a similar question, but only between 2 schools.
University of Miami Miller School of Medicine OR Albert Einstein?

dk-

1. I loved what U Miami was telling us on interview day; I know nothing about Albert Einstein
2. I do agree with planning ahead, but my advice is to pick your medical school before worrying about anesthesiology residency.

Actually, I recieved an email via ERAS from the former program director speaking about the PD switch ect. I actually interviewed with Dr. Eckert and found her very impressive and the other residents said that she was an advocate for them. I dont view this change as a big deal. Penn State is an excellent program.
