I am curious about what each of you would say my chances of acceptance are.

I am weighted heavily on the academic end with a 4.0 GPA, but my OAT scores were only AA = 330, TS = 330. Also, I only have 56 hours of total shadowing and optometry experience.

I obviously have several GPA related awards (ie Dean's lists, Summa Cum Laude) and Clubs such as Honors college/Honors council and NSCS. But other than my academic end, I am not too impressive on paper.

You have an excellent GPA and average OAT scores. I say you stand a very good chance (>80%) in getting into any Optometry school.

I am relieved to hear this. I keep looking back wishing I had known this was the path I wanted to take. Looking at my application keeps bringing up those should-have, could-have moments. So many people on these forums seem to have to opposite concern (lower academics, plenty of experience). I was really starting to worry, even though all I can do now is move forward. Thank you for your opinion.

You are welcome. And you know my opinion is honest, as shown in the other chances thread.

Academics I'd say is weighed as 80%-90% of your application and experience/extra-curriculars is about 10%-20%.

You will get plenty of interviews...relax...you'll be fine🙂

Your stats are GREAT

What type of shadowing experience do you have? Strictly private private practice? Have you shadowed in different branches of optometry (vision therapy, pediatrics, low vision, etc)?

Thank you! I shadowed one optometrist who started a private practice and another who owns her practice as part of the Pearle Vision franchise.

You'll get into almost any school you apply to as long as you're not the worlds most uninteresting person.
