Hey,
A friend of mine applied for Pharm school at Howard and hasn't heard anything back yet. What was the deadline? Has anyone had an interview there recently??

Thanks!

I applied around late November but I still have not heard anything from them.
I am so disspointed about their attitude toward applicants.
I finally can know why they are about to lose accredential status!!

I heard from a a pretty reliable source that Howard is receiving a lot of notices from candidates who are either withdrawing their names from consideration for an interview or they are declining acceptance. As someone else mentioned, their incoming class is going to be small but it seems like they are still experiencing problems filling up the slots that are still available given the number of people who are choosing to go elsewhere. I hope that this means that they will be conducting additional interviews for those who still want to attend. I hope that it works out for you two!

Students are turning them down?.....I think it is because they are on accreditation probation. I wouldn't go there if I have more than one acceptance. It is possible that they would bounce back, but at this time is uncertain. If it is the only school you applied to and get accepted, then you must go there, it is the students who would have to work extra hard to reinstate the accreditation status. It is sad though, I thought Howard was one of the good Black schools.

Despite its current situation with the pharmacy school I still believe that Howard is one of the most respected historically Black colleges in this country. I really hope that this situation is a wake-up call for them that they just can't rely on their name and that they really should strive to be more professional because we do have options.

Even though I was accepted to Howard and didn't have any other acceptances at the time, I made the decision that I would not be attending Howard. I refuse to deal with for four years, what I dealt with just trying to get in to their school. I am so blessed that I have been accepted to the other school that I applied to which ironically was my first choice from the beginning.

I believe that in the end, the students who attend Howard will be just fine but I really hope that they challenge the administration on the way in which they conduct their business. I am realizing more and more that school is a business and if you want to stay in business then you have to treat your customers right.

This is their 2nd probation guys. 2000 was the last time. That's exactly 6 yrs ago, and schools get accredited every 6 yrs. Looks like they are slipping real hard!

Hello,mph2pharm
I agree what you said. By the way, I finally could contact one of the admission last Wednesday. Let me tell you what happened. I called them, and a guy picked up my call. So, I asked if he could ckeck my status of application. Then, he wanted me to wait. So, I waited. (for 15 minutes). Then, he got back and told me to wait another minutes. So, I waited for another 20 min!! Then, he said he asked me my contact number because he was in the middle of something. So, I told him my cell phone number and my name. Then, about hour later he returned my call. He asked my name again and finally found my informations. Guess what he said about my status after he found my informations. He said my status of application is Completed. So, I asked what the completed means then the man said they received my application. So, I asked what about my interview status at this point, then he said he doesn't know because he is not a member of committee. Then, I asked if there is any way to contact to committee then he said I cannot. Well, I have never seen such a school before.

By the way, they start picking up the calls, so for those who like to contact with Howard, you can try. But, do not expect much from them.

I have called Howard twice and both times, the same guy answered the phone and told me the same thing: that they have received my completed application and that their ad com is still working on reviewing all applicants b/c they received so many applications this year. I never even received a letter from Howard ever since I applied. They have never tried to correspond with me thru out the application process. I have no idea if they'll even send me a rejection letter (if they do decide to reject me).

I too applied to Howard and never heard from them. There's really something wrong with this school. Howard is the only school among the 8-9 schools I applied to I haven't gotten an interview.
Probably they lost their accreditation and don't care much about the admission process anymore, who knows.
I got accepted to my 1st choice school, so I don't care either now

I am so sorry to hear about that comet81. I know exactly who you spoke to and he is filling in for the person who usually oversees admissions (that person has been out on medical leave since January). What has been so disappointing to me is that it seems like he isn't really clear on what he is supposed to be doing. I understand that things happen but during the peak admissions season it would seem like the person who would take over would be someone who actually knows the process and can handle the volume and nature of the calls/emails from prospective students.

Hopefully they will handle things a little better the next application cycle once the person who usually oversees admissions is back at work BUT I would say that at this point if you have been accepted somewhere else, I would seriously think about attending that school instead.

I would just like to inform some of you that Howard is still interviewing for positions for their Fall class. I know that many of you are frustrated that you have not heard anything but you must realize that their situation is what has caused that. Also, they recieved 2000+ applications this year so that also plays a role into their delays.
Regardless of what others may say on here. Howard is a great school and they will get that probation status removed form their name. All they need now are students who are willing to work hard and help Howard School of Pharmacy maintain their strong reputation.

I just received an email for May 17. So, I am assuming since a lot of students are rejecting their acceptance/interview, they are conducting another round of interviews. Does anyone have any advice to what I should expect from the interview or how to prepare?

well i was accepted there last year.
There interview process may have changed a little.
There was a short tour, an interview with two professors, an essay, and a math test. It moved pretty quickly, even though there was a lot to do in a short time.

Congrats on the interview. I interviewed back in February and everything is pretty much as PharmDhope2b has stated. I have also been telling folks to take a snack with them (granola bar, snack crackers, etc.). The process for me lasted about 3 hours (from about 11am to 2 pm) so I became really hungry at about noon. We were not offered any refreshments so I was happy that I had a snack with me which I ate on the tour (our tour was before the actual interview). The best advice I can offer is to try not to be nervous and just be yourself. It really wasn't a stressful interview.

You may also want to check out the interview feedback section of this website. Good luck!

I just received email for May 17th interview. I am finally relieved. Can anyone tell me what the math test would look like?

The Math test is cake. there is no need to stress about it. Everything is very relaxed. Just be yourself and enjoy. Good Luck.

Does anyone know how many seats are left so far?

I know that Howard requires laptops...does anyone that has been accepted know if they provide the laptops? The letter was really not clear as to whether you had to buy one or if it is provided for you.

They provide you with a laptop with special delivery up your rear.
