Has anyone been accepted to Howard??........If so are u still planning on attending?
I have not heard anything yet.I might not go if accepted

I haven't heard anything back from them yet, either....I'm hoping they send something out soon, since I already interviewed...I'll keep checking back to see if anyone has gotten a response from them yet, and I'll let you know if I receive anything from them as well

so when did you interview

I haven't heard anything yet and I was part of the first round of February interviews. I was told a few weeks ago that the admissions committee would be meeting soon to make decisions (I guess on the folks who interviewed Feb. 8th or Feb. 15th). There are a few things that are up in the air right now for me though.

I interviewed on Feb 15 and they said the admissions committee would meet the following Friday (Feb 24th)...still no word though

Those of you who applied to Howard have a lot to consider as the original post eluded to. For those interested I posted a link to an article in HU's school paper "The Hilltop" when the issue originally came up about HU accredidation status. Supposedly ACPE is to come back in the Fall semester of '06 to make a final judgement on accredidation status (approved or denied). This would severely jeopardize those who could be 1st yr students at that time (however it would be fairly easy to transfer after only 1 semester); but you run the risk of losing an entire yr or ride it out in a school that may not re-obtain full accredidation status. Nonetheless, I really doubt that things get to this point and would hope that HU will be able to re-obtain full accredidation status in the fall.

Eitherway you really have to way the pro's and con's if HU is your only choice or even if you have to decide b/w HU and another school of pharmacy.

I'm not sure if I will still attend or not...I'm not a gambling girl for the most part, and don't want to risk the chance of going to a school that is not accredited...I applied to all the Florida schools so more than likely I'll just stay here. I was very excited about going at first, but that was on the 15th when I had my interview, right before that article came out so...may have to just let that one go...what about you guys

I also interviewed on the 15th. I was really excited about Howard and believed that I would go there if accepted. I then saw that they had been placed on probation.........I have to admit it was one of the most depressing days I have had in a while. 🙁

Yeah you and me both...did you apply to any other schools? If so, have you heard anything from them yet? What time was your interview, maybe I saw you there...mine was at noon

I really doubt that they will lose their accredidation. From my understanding, when a school is on probation they are given a set of action steps that must be taken and given a certain deadline to do them. Unless they are being asked to do something outrageous or near impossible, I would hope that they would not let their program lose its accredidation. I personally have a lot to think about because Howard was a top choice for me and I don't have a lot of options because I don't have the flexibility to relocate right now. I know people who have gone through the program and they have all had good things to say about the education they received there so I was really surprised to read about what is happening.

I am really depressed right now but I am going to hope for the best.

just like u said...i doubt they will want to lose accreditation. I also heared that howard is reducing the # of students it is admitting this year to meet up with one of the requirements of the accreditation council. so they will be shooting for less than 100 students this year unlike last year which was 125. Ehmmmm this doesnot look too good for us who interviewd but i guess we should all hope for the best eh!!!!!!!!!!

Howard is one of if not the oldest HBCU's out there and they know better than to loose a pharmacy school that has been in existence for decades. I belief they will do eveything in their powers to be back in shape. Probabtion or not, i will be going there if accepted.

Hope to see u all there come fall 2006

I also interviewed on the 15th. They did say the committee was going to meet on the 24th but I have not heard anything yet.

I'm thinking that they just haven't made decisions yet on the candidates that interviewed on Feb. 8th and 15th, especially in light of the fact that they are now having to reduce the number of students that they will be accepting for the fall. What I am thinking is that the accredidation council may have found that the student to teacher ratio was too large, so they either have to reduce the number of students or hire more teachers. It seems like they are choosing to reduce the number of students.

I think that they may be going back through all of the candidates and doing some re-evaluation. I am a little confused about where they are in the interview process because there were only about 10 candidates interviewing on the day that I interviewed. If they are looking to still accept about 100 students then either a lot of students were accepted through the early decision process last Fall or they plan to do some more rounds of interviews. For those who interviewed on the Feb. 15th, do you mind sharing the number of candidates that interviewed on that day?

I would think positive v482599...I just really don't think that they have made all of their final decisions yet. I, like you, will probably go there if accepted.

When I interviewed on the 15th some of the P2 and P3 students said that they continue interviewing people all through April and sometime May or until they fill all their seats. It wouldn't hurt for you to email/call someone and ask about the condition of your application.

I would definitely call them annette22. I was notified by phone that they wanted to bring me in for an interview...but before that I had received correspondence by mail regarding the status of my application so I knew that they had received it and had reviewed my file. It is a little strange to me that you haven't heard anything and you applied in late December. Even if your PCAT scores were a little lower than what they like to see and they wanted you to re-take, or if they had questions regarding your coursework, etc. they should have sent you a letter letting you know your status (which again is what they did with me). I would also check the PharmCAS website because when I log into my file, it shows when Howard received my materials.

Good Luck

I have a feeling that they are trying to figure out how to handle admissions for the fall given the current situation, so they aren't really responding to voicemails, etc. They are probably bombarded with calls/emails/etc. from other prospective candidates as well as current students in the program. I take it that you are not local to Washington, DC? In the past I have had a lot of problems getting a response to my emails/voicemails so I have actually taken time off work and have gone directly to the admissions office to speak to someone (but if you are not local I guess that is not an option for you). All I can say is keep calling...they are going to have to let all of us know something sooner or later.

Good luck!

Since you guys were at the interviews.. on the 8th or the 15th. Didn't they say that the school was going to try the block schedule this fall? Could this be why they are on prohbation?

I have not heard from them either.

Besides the 8th and 15th,was there or is there another interview date anyone was invited to, I think howard is kinda slacking this year, they are always behind.

I haven't heard anything either nor have I tried to contact anyone. I understand that they are dealing with a really delicate situation right now but I do think that those who have interviewed should receive some sort of response (for closure if not for any other reason). The email wouldn't necessarily have to mention the current situation but at least let us know that our files are still be reviewed, decisions haven't been made at this point or if we are flat out rejected. I am sure that many qualified applicants are exercising other options right now because of a lack of communication from Howard. There are still some of us out here who MAY still consider the program if there was just some sort of communication with us. Not answering the telephone or responding to emails is not going to make the situation go away. I do however think that they are still trying to figure out how they will handle incoming students in the fall (what will they or won't they say about the current situation to incoming students? How many students will they accept and under what conditions?).

btw...is there a chance that they won't accept any students for the fall? (has that ever happened at a school in this type of situation?)

To all of you who have been trying to contact Howard and have not heard back the only thing you can do is to continue to email the recruitment people and just continue to bug them until they respond. What you have to understand is that they are in a situation in which they are not sure what to do so the process is dragging out.
I know a few people who just recieved letters that their application packets were complete....so they may be getting ready to host another round of interviews. I don't think it is likely that they will not accept any students for the fall. They are on probation for things that can be fixed as long as they take quick action to fix them. Hopefully everything will turn out alright.

I am just really nervous about the future of the incoming class. You are absolutely right that things can be fixed and make no mistake about it, even some highly regarded programs (medical/residency/etc.) have found themselves in probationary situations BUT I just hope that the university is truly committed to addressing their problems on a long-term basis and not just putting a bandaid on them. One good thing about the situation (I guess) is hopefully this will force much needed changes and a renewed committment to training students that are just as competitive as students from what are considered to be the top programs.

I am just curious da--realist and others...at this point would you still consider going if offered an acceptance?
