This info is spread out all over the gas forum, but I thought it would be cool to talk about (in one place) how all of you guys got hooked on gas, some of the attendings or residents that inspired you, etc.

Or, if this is a dumb idea, then please feel free to use this space to flame away. 😛

Man...getting ignored is worse than getting flamed...oh well.

I got hooked the first day of my medicine rotation!

BTW- I think this is a good thread!

I got hooked one month after completing my FP residency. Spending time in the OR and talking to anesthesiologists convinced me that I needed to get out of primary. Also I worked as a house officer and really liked the idea of dealing with a problem and moving on. Your results in anesthesia/critical care are immediate at times.

I tell you that it tok me four years to switch from FP so my decision was well thought out.

I was about 10 days into my surgery rotation (my first clerkship) and showed up in the OR at MDACC after grand rounds at school, or something, anyway I showed up after the case had been going for about 3 hours. It was clinical day for a group of scrub-techs-2-B or something, the table was stacked 2 deep down to the feet. All the stools were being used. I couldn't see crap. So I went to see what the anesthesiologist was doing. She let me mix meds, load syringes, test conduction etc. I was hooked. She was an ultracool gal always explaining what was happening with the vitals and how you could tell the surgeon was doing something near the diaphragm or pressing on the IVC, etc. It has been at the top of the list since and everything has been steadily struck off.
