HP tm2t (tablet) no longer available?

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that. That's the computer I have, and I love it. I had it custom built, though, so I had to wait about a month and a half after I ordered it before it came to me, but it was worth it.

What are the specs on the lower end models?

They might be about to come out with a new model. They did something similar when they came out with the tm2t. I would wait a little bit.

Or just get a Lenovo. Those are on sale and you can get a core I7.

It has the i3 with Win7 Home. The one linked in cowgirla's post has the i5, but I don't really see a way to buy the warranty. Also, it is probably Win7 home version as it says in the spec list, not Win7 pro as it claims in the title.

twelvetigers, thats my thought too. I hope they come out soon, because the new business class HP tablets 2760p have a month long back order. I might end up going with a Lenovo due to time constraints or buy the super expensive HP business class tablet from my school. 🙁 I don't want lenovo because it does not have accidental warranty. According to the vet med IT guy, dead pixels or bleeding screens are not covered under the regular warranty while accidental does.

Lenovos have a long make/delivery time too. I should know... I just ordered one. But the sale just ended and their website is just *miserable*... damn people need to fix that shiz.

But I think I will like the computer. 🙂 Hub has the HP tm2t and wishes he had gone Lenovo.

Jspitz, check out squaretrade, they sell separate warranties.

cool site, didn't know about it (obviously).

I decided to go with Lenovo though. Hopefully I won't regret it. :xf:

I am off to pay my rabies shot bill! My credit card is going to explode.

Off topic rant. Listen to what Lenovo did to me: I ordered their tablet, and then canceled it a day or two later, (that's me being impulsive, but also finding out that their sales rep wasn't entirely forthcoming about a few things). When I canceled it they said, "no problem" because the thing was back-ordered anyway. The $2,500 charge on my Bill Me Later account disappeared. Then 3 weeks later, the tablet shows up at my doorstep. I look at my Bill Me Later account, and a few days prior they had charged me again for it! I mailed it back to them, and it has been 3 weeks since they received it and I am still waiting to get that $2,500 removed from my account so I can buy the mac I want to buy. Let's just say they've heard a few swear words from my mouth over the phone.

Nope! I should be getting my sick 15" Macbook Pro (with an anti-glare screen and a 750 GB hard-drive) in the mail in a few days. I also got a Bamboo tablet pad thing to be able to use the tablet feature. I love my current 13" Macbook Pro too much to go back to a PC, and especially an ugly one at that (though the HP was alright, Lenovo's is difficult to look at)

lenovo may not be the prettiest, but its one of the best tablets out there 😀

Thinkpads are beautiful in their own industrial, understated, matte black way.😀. I like to think of them as the naturally beautiful catches that don't need a bunch of shiny [aluminum] jewelry/makeup to prove how special they are.

And I fully acknowledge how ugly they are, but they are the best PC/tablet you can buy.

I really considered the iPad, and I'm sure I could have used it a fair amount, but I just don't think it would have done everything I wanted it to. And I could have kept my Netbook and carried around the iPad too, but switching from one to the other during class or something... meh. I decided it wasn't what I wanted.

So, the only companies to offer the PC/tablet combo are Dell, HP, and Lenovo. Dell only has the 8lb mountain man version any more, as they are phasing the combos out and going towards plain tablets (which do not run Windows, and I want Windows damnit - I don't want to have an 'app', I want to have the regular program, and I want it to run just as well as it does on my desktop). HP had the tm2t which, as the thread title suggests, has mysteriously vanished from their website. They may be doing the same thing that Dell is doing (phasing them out) or they may be coming out with a new model of some sort. Regardless, my husband has one and he doesn't like it. It won't sit on your lap due to the weight of the hinges, the screen is only viewable from a specific angle, and it locks up when he tries to do certain things (some involving his insane, RAM hogging surveying software, but also... Word, web browsing). He just doesn't like it, and he's my computer person, so yeah.

So that really only leaves Lenovo... and anyone that's had one has liked it. I think I'll be happy when it comes in this August. I'll be sure to tell everyone if I'm not. :d

squibby, do you have any pros/cons on the bamboo tablet to share? i'm considering purchasing one for my netbook before i decide to get a lenovo tablet

Hi. Well, I wish the bamboo tablet would have turned out better than it did.

As far as functionality goes, it behaves exactly as it should. One thing I didn't realize is that the tablet actually represents a miniature layout of your screen; so if you pick up the pen and put it to the tablet, your cursor goes on the screen to the spot the location of the square on the tablet represents. So, you pick up the pen and put it to the upper right corner of the tablet, your cursor moves to the upper right corner of your screen. I would rather have liked to be able to just put the pen on the tablet and have it take control of the cursor where the cursor had been. This feature kinda puts an extra step in transitioning between typing/trackpad use and tablet use, because you have to take a second to orient yourself on the tablet and get the cursor to where you need.

Another thing I didn't realize, and don't like, is that the tablet actually senses the pen up to a few cm away from its surface, so you can control the cursor by just hovering over it. This sounds cool, but, I found that it would actually mess me up more than anything because you have to be sure to lay the pen down off to the side of the tablet when not using it.

Also, the pen has two buttons on it that you need to use to use all of its features, which just adds another step and another thing to remember when you are already juggling switching back and forth between your laptop and the tablet.

Lastly, the tablet is too large to be able to reasonably fit it and the laptop on a classroom desk. There may be smaller versions, I got the $70 version, but I actually think the pad gets larger as they get more expensive. And, not even all of the surface is useable, it is really only a much smaller rectangle in the center of the pad that can be used.

I will be returning my bamboo tablet. In the end I realize that it is much easier to just use the trackpad on my laptop; my fingers are already right there, I don't have to jump back and forth all of the time, and I don't have to constantly reorient myself on the screen.

The bamboo tablet does not really offer anything you can't do with your laptop's trackpad, unless you would rather use a pen than your fingers for the basic trackpad functions, or unless you need to be able to write freehand into files, (the tablet wasn't very good at that, I could definitely see why having a "real" tablet system would be an advantage because you wouldn't be writing on a pretend screen, which makes it difficult to write clearly), but I'm faster at typing so I don't want to hand-write all of my notes anyway.

I wish that I could have a tablet, but I was dreading dealing with a PC again so I just got a better MacBook Pro than the one I already had. Had I been able to actually try out a tablet and see how I liked it, maybe I would have made a different choice. I dunno. I hope this helps.

Bamboo tablets and the like are mostly for artists that are drawing in Photoshop and stuff like that. Not really meant for taking notes.

If you want a Mac, you will have to type, and if you don't want to type... get a Lenovo and deal with it being ugly as hell. 😀

Lenovos aren't ugly, just...simple. Haha. When I founf out that was what I was getting freshman year of college, i nearly cried at the ugliness of the picture i saw. When I got it, I ended up really liking the basic box-y black design (something to do with OCDness, idk haha)

Thanks for all the info on the tablet-I'm glad I had the chance to hear an opinion before purchasing one. I think I'll just use this semester to decide if I really want a full tablet, otherwise I'll just stick with what i have!

Or you could get a Fujitsu Lifebook... they're not ugly 😉 I'm not sure how the specs compare to a Lenovo, but mine works very well and I've had minimal problems with it.

sorry for off topic, but where did you get that avatar twelvetigers?? what breed is that cat?

I found it laying around online somewhere - nothing I made, don't know anything about it. As for the cat, your guess is as good as mine.
