Does the internship count as payback?

If i understand it correctly, the answer is yes and no.
Yes, it counts toward paying back your HPSP years, BUT since you are being trained, you acrue an additional year of payback. So basically it evens out to you still owing that year.

I concur with Homunculus. I just look at it as not doing any net payback until after internship and residency.
