Hello,

I am planning on taking some sort of human anatomy and physiology courses but confused as to what to take because it seems that all the schools want something different. Some want 8 credits of human anatomy and physiology I and II. Some want just 6 credits, and some want 4 credits of human anatomy and 4 credits of human physiology or just plain human anatomy. I already have my bachelor's and time and money are huge factors for me since I have a full time job. What would you suggest I do?🙂

Most colleges around me (eastern Pennsylvania) offer 4 credit Human Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 4 credit Human Anatomy and Physiology 2. These are semester classes. I would just take those. I'm pretty sure 100% of schools will except that. I have never seen a prerequisite for Gross Human Anatomy, which is an advanced course.

This is my dilemma: All the schools in my area (Rochester) only offer human anatomy and physiology that are 3 credits not 4! The only way I could meet the 8 credit requirement is to take each one separately twice! Do you think I should just contact the schools I'm considering and ask if they would accept the 6 credits?

Is there a separate lab course? 3 credits is usually just lecture and then there is a 1 credit lab. If there isn't, I would contact the schools and they might tell you that you have to take them at a local community college.

Yes, so I just checked that and it is a lec and lab included course that is 3 credits. I guess I don't know what to do now. Is taking 8 hours plus 2 labs for two more semesters worth applying to more schools?

Contact the schools and tell them that your undergrad university only has a total of 6 credits total. Retaking the class wouldn't make it more then 8 credits, it would still only be 6 credits. Try looking at a community college, but I would really contact the schools first.

Good question!

Do your schools of choice have a problem with Community College credits? If not (and I don't think most do, if you explain that you are working full time and can only take classes in the evening or whatever), then how many credits do your local CC A&P classes + lab count as? Is there one that will fit in your schedule? As a bonus, it will be MUCH cheaper (I priced out a class recently at ASU versus my local CC, and it's on the scale of 1/5 - 1/4).

Also, I second the suggestion above to contact your schools of choice and ask what to do if your college will only offer 6 credits. They should understand or have a suggestion, especially if they're local. (Unless your school specifically allows it - which is a minority, and usually for phys ed or art type classes only - you can't repeat a course and get additional credits for it.)

If not, is there some other anatomy or physiology related type class you can take for maybe 3 credits? Maybe animal anatomy or something? There's another post titled along the lines of "check my schedule" in which the poster is taking Zoology: Animal Anatomy, Form, and Function or something like that. See if your schools of choice will take something like this instead, if you HAVE to have 8 credits.

The schools that offer the 4 credit hour class has the lab component already included. In New Orleans we have to do it separate, lecture 3 credits and lab 1 credit. Your school does the same thing, which means you have to sign up for 2 lectures and 2 labs to meet the 8 credit hour requirement.
