what's the general consensus on Human Development and Family Studies PhD programs compared to a developmental psychology program? I know this is a clinical based forum, I wanted to see if there are any members that are currently in 1 of these types of programs. While its not a psychology program ( and know the prestige factor is different), I've seen that there are many faculty members was similar research interests to those who are the developmental psychologists or focused on research on life span or family process type issues. Also, is it common for graduates of a HDFS program to work in a psych department or a medical school setting and vice versa? Academic job outlook?

I am also highly interested in this question. I'm wondering if I should throw in a few of these human development programs into the mix of my applications for next year. I noticed that many of these programs were essentially doing similar research with various topics in clinical and counseling psychology.

Glad to see another interest. Seem one could go to a developmental psychology, educational psychology, or a human development and family studies phd program and research the same things ( my interests are relationships and family processes influence on life span developmnt and vice versa)

So did anyone end up applying to a Human Developmental PhD?
