Hi,

I am currently an undergrad student studying Human Development, I am really interested in getting a masters in Clinical Psychology that has the MFT option built in. Human Development seems to be not really included under psychology. I have seen it offered as a PhD Program that focuses on research as well as an MA Program that focuses on Child Development. I guess my question is how do you guys think Human Development is perceived within psychology is it its on discipline or what.....

I am thinking maybe being a MFT for a while before going after a doctorate that has more to do with research.

Thanks

* I am also posting this in the Psychology forum as well. I am not sure which place is best.

Please note that posting the same thread twice (or more) in the forums, especially the same forum, is a violation of the SDN Terms of Service agreement you signed when you registered.

I have merged the two threads into Mental Health and Social Welfare and left a temporary redirect in the Psychology Ph.D./Psy.D. forum.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Hi Michelle,

I was also a Human Development undergrad major and am currently an MFT graduate student. While there are some major differences between Psych programs and MFT, it is my experience that Human Development is related and viewed as a good base. However, psychology seems to be much more research intensive than human development.

I'm a fan of the MFT master's and then a further doctorate if you are more interested in research (as most MFT Master's programs are clinical...many do have research included as well). That is my plan, so I am a bit biased.
