A 42 year old female with history of hyperparathyroidism complains of TMJ problem.

Which of the following will most likely be INCREASED in this patient?
Answ: Renal Calcium Excretion

I thouhg hyperparathyroidism increased the serum Ca and so reduced Ca excretion into urine?!! Can someone correct me please!

parathyroid hormone does increase calcium level, but at the same time it maintains calcium level in the body. so any excess calcium tends to be removed by the body to maintain calcium equilibrium. So in case of hyperparathyroidism, more the serum calcium ,more the excretion of calcium from body to maintain the equi.
i think tis is the concept. correct me if i m wrong

very true..but other options for this questions were:
-increase in Ca absorption in intestine
-increase in P excretion

so either one of these could be right too!

i think the decrease in the levels of phosphate is due to its reaction with ca and not due to increased excretion and it causes increased reabsorption of calcium from the renal tubules...

PTH doesn't increase excretion of Ca anywhere. It does 3 things: increase the reabsorption of Ca in the thick ascending limb, increases the activation of vitamin D (Which leads to increased absorption of Ca from the gut, and decreases the tubular reabsorption of phosphate.

Where did this question come from, because it seems to have a wrong answer.

I think it is calcium excretion.because patient feeling TMJ pain due to resorption of calium from bone.calium excretion also increased when there is increased resorbtion and absorbtion by PTH.

either 2003 or 2005 released paper.
