MD Hypothetical Application to Harvard for Next Year

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
According to google, Harvard Medical School had an acceptance rate of 3.9% in 2012. This means you have a 3.9% chance or lower of getting into HMS.

Good luck.

Hi given my current situation I'm going to apply after I'm done my 4th year (currently just finished 3rd year).
I also can not write my MCAT this summer so I'm forced to write it next summer (as soon as possible).
I know you need to know my MCAT scores to give a relatively accurate chance - but I know you gotta hit it big lol.

I'm wondering what are my chances of getting to Harvard Medical School? Especially as a international. What can I do to improve my app? Be brutal, but gentle - if you have to :dead:.

Here's some of my stats:

-Canadian
-Male/Indian

Program: It’s a Science and Commerce Program Combined (but I graduate with a "Bachelors of Health Sciences”) (Science and Commerce Mandatory courses) (*Its a brand new program at my University and I'll be in the first graduating class)

cGPA/sGPA:
estimating by end of 4th year: 3.80 to 3.85

ECs:
Occupation
-Worked as Assistant Manager for Real Estate Office (family owned) Total Hours: 400ish
-Obtained Real Estate License [co-currently with my undergrad] [took approximately 2 years]

Clinical Hours
-1st Hospital (34 hours)
-2nd Hospital (17 hours)
-Medical Volunteer in South America (travelled abroad) (1.5 weeks) (81 hours)
-3rd Hospital (estimating: 60 hours by end of year) (+ref letter)
-Shadowing Doc [I'm going to try to shadow a doc for 30 hours]
Total = 222 hours

Research Experience
1. Thesis Lab (Estimating ~500 hours of lab work :arghh: lol)
2. Researching at Bone Clinic (Estimating 50 hours)
Total Hours: 550 hours

Symposium
-3 hour symposium/presentation, 1 month preparation
-Presentation in front of 50 different professors from many faculties

Editor/Writer/Designer for Student-Run Magazine

Vice President of 2 Clubs
Total Time: 2 Years

What can I do to improve my app? ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED

To add to everyone else, your ECs seem decent, but I wouldn't call them uniquely Harvard-level. What I mean by that is that your ECs are amazing, but when I read them, I can think of people who match your level of experience at non-top 50 med schools as well. They may be impressive and you may get an acceptance to Harvard with strong ECs being a factor but as others said, this thread is pointless without the MCAT/GPA. Also, if you're going to ask if my ECs don't stand out as extraordinary, what can I do? In my mind, nothing. Do what you can do and enjoy doing it and just make sure your have the grades/MCAT to boot. In these days with nepotism and resume padding running rampant, this is your best bet.

Tl;dr

Don't speculate until your LizzyM's been determined.

The odds of you getting an interview are 10%, but being accepted down to ~3%.

Your ECs are rather lackluster for someone of Harvard caliber. You need more non-clinical service work, and more patient contact experience as well, unless you can verify your travel abroad with a LOR, and Adcom member will merely call it medical tourism, or a "vacation'.

The median MCAT score for a Harvard matriculant is 37 (but surprisingly, the range is wide: 31-38 for the 10th-90th%iles...this is as wide as Rosy Franklin's or Albany's!)
