I am deeply depressed and don't know what I'm doing in school anymore. :((

I was at a community college where I aced courses such as Physics I/II, chem I/II and Orgo I/II. Was doing pre-pharm and worked at a pharmacy for 8 months and said it sucks and switched to medicine. Shadowed 5-6 doctors, got a few letters of rec along with a pharm.d LOR. Transferred to a state school, where I took 14 credits first semester, dropped biochem due to near failing it, got my first two c's in life after 80 credits of college, got my first C in a chem 200 inorganic class.

This is my second semester at my university and I've dropped my chem major and switched to biology because it's easier, but I'm still earning D's in classes. Talking to my peers, almost all are going to DO schools as all have low MCATs.

I'm just stuck in a slump after 4 years of college and I'm also turning 21 next week
I feel unmotivated to get out of bed and study, I go to class and have no focus.

I can't reach the level of DEEP FOCUSED studying I could before where I was completely driven to attaining one goal.
How do I get over this slump? I used to never take a night off from studying, now I've basically taken the next year off.

Why don't you take a break from college. Get a job and work for a while. Enjoy life, do some travelling and think about what you really want to do. Sitting there and destroying your GPA isn't going to help you at all. When you have a better perspective and a REAL desire to go after medicine (if that is in fact the conclusion you come to) I promise the motivation part will be easier.

21 means nothing. I started premed at 27.

Consider seeking medical/professional help. I'm sure your school has some kind of confidential counseling service. There may be something underlying your inability to focus that they can help you understand and fix.

STRONGLY concur. If you were peeing blood right now, you'd get help, right? This is the same thing.

I was pretty stressed out & anxious just before and during the month of waiting after taking the MCAT, and I got help. The academic pressure we put on ourselves can generate a negative cycle.

🙂

Honestly I would try to get in some exercise. It can definitely help with the stress we put ourselves under. Just go for a run with a friend or shoot hoops. It can work wonders, especially if you couple it with some sort of therapy as others have mentioned.

I'm really sorry you're having this trouble. From my perspective, confidence is a big part of being successful. This extends to basically everything in life- including classwork. Maybe you need some time off, but you certainly need to speak to someone.

Sometimes when I feel bummed about how some things have gone I try to step outside of the situation in order to gain perspective. Volunteering has really helped me focus in this regard.
I really hope everything works out for you.

Also, after your break I would advise you to go to a different college campus to complete your degree. Obviously the college you chose is not right for you, so no use taking a break then coming back and fighting with your demons again.
