Yeah so I took a practice Kaplan exam and here are my scores:

Bio: 16
GC: 16
OC: 15
RC: 16
QR: 16
PA: 19
AA: 15.8
Overall: 17.4

And what sucks is I applied just last week. AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!! I so wanted to graduate this year, so I could avoid Biochem in undergraduate and not ruin my GPA. Oh boy, great, I still have a year to go now.

With the exception of the PAT, Kaplan tests are not easy. Just keep your head up and study

I dunno about kaplan being difficult or not, but for some reason I felt Kaplan was going easy on me for the PAT Section and partly for the RC. Only Two weeks left till the exam, wish me luck, I will keep you guys posted with my other exams.

i wouldnt say your doomed. i was averaging 17-18 overall on kaplan sample exams.. i ended up with a 21 on the real thing after kaplan, topscore & achiever..

however.. your application definetly not "early" ... and i assume youre not taking the exam next week...
Unless your GPA was rediculously high, if i were you, i would withdraw my applications.. take my DAT and apply may 15th 2007 for the 2008 cycle..

just keep studying!!! study until you are so sick of studying that you just want to take it already b/c you can't take another second of studying 😀

i studied my heart out and ended up doing well, just be consistent with your studying and do a lot of it b/t now and when you take the DAT, but make sure to give yourself power breaks/naps!!!

Anyway I wrote a whole message and the computer didn't load the page fast so I lost it. But basically wow laelialudisia, I wish I could do that. Its really difficult to balance school work and DAT work, but I am trying. BTW what is the difference between power breaks and normal breaks?

Thanx,

Those look like my practice test scores about 2 weeks before the real deal. Keep taking tests! You'll get better.

a power break for me is something refreshing that DOES NOT involve much brain power, like taking a quick 15-20 minute nap, light exercising---anything that refreshes you mentally so you can return to absorb more info. and focus.

for me, there are many "breaks" that i can take like checking my email, SDN, etc. that are NOT refreshing and recharging even though they are breaks.

power naps worked great for me along with exercise. one more piece of advice, i took the DAT achiever tests 1 week before the actual test and i think that really helped motivate me the last week. the o.chem, g.chem and bio parts are MUCH harder than the real thing. plan to score several points higher on the real thing than you do on DAT achiever.

I agree with most on this thread. My practice test through Kaplan were also 17-18 in most areas and on test day I was 22 TS. My QR dragged me down to a 20 AA so don't be discouraged by the results. On test day you'll be at least 2 points higher than your Kaplan tests.

I didn't study until I was finished with Kaplan, so my Kaplan scores were like 16 and 17 (and almost always 14 in bio 😉). So are the scores you posted from your Kaplan final?

So I have a question. You see my online acess expires Oct. 12 (Thurs). I will have another week. I was going to go over the Review book and then do some wrk sheets that I saved from Kaplan. But would you suggest ordering DAT achiever or just go with my plan? The wrk sheets could almost be treated as tests.

P.S Like my avatar? She's my gf! No, not really, unfortunately.

For me, DAT Achiever was extremely helpful in one section--the PAT. Kaplan covers everything else adequately. If anything, I would order Achiever and do the PAT if you have very limited time. You'll realize what I mean once you start doing Achiever's hole punching section

DEFINITELY order achiever! its good practice, although the questions are hard but some of the questions on there have been known to be on the real deal. It will also help you with the PAT as well (has a program that lets you visualize the object from any angle). Kaplan PAT is a joke, the real DAT PAT was a bit harder but if you practice with hard stuff like achiever than you will have no problem with the easier thing. goodluck with everything!!

I agree that Kaplan PAT is way to easy. I was always scoring 23-25 on the PAT practice, so I felt like I did not need to study much in that area. I focused on the science. It cost me to the tune of a 19 on the PAT real thing. Still OK, but I expected better. Try DAT Achiever. I wish I would of.

It is not real, no schools use it and it isn't even on the printout you get from the test. No need to waste your time with a useless number.

You are right, I was just trying to make myself feel better, just so I could I scored a 17 and not a 16. Thnx for bursting my bubble (just kidding.)

PM with your email and I'll give you all I've got on my computer for DAT stuff. I ended up with very good scores a few points above average for almost all schools.

You've got time but at the same time...you don't.

Not sure if anyone has suggested this yet, but I was a big fan of TopScore.

Keep studying and suck it up. Realize it is a temporary problem that leads to a permanent solution of being a dentist. And that's all that matters!

o yeah, and watch those "power naps"....mine always ended up as 4 hr sleeping sessions....i wasn't refreshed after, i was ready to go to bed....

If that is your picture on your profile, I wouldn't worry about your ADT that much, just make sure the adcoms are males 🙂

UGH, I am GUY cmon, I just found that chick to be really hot, her name is Amrita Rao an Indian actress. Anyway, update on my practice test scores:
Bio: 16
GC: 14
OC: 16
RC: 18 Thought this was a little easy--I hope the real thing is as easy
QR: 18 Guessed more than I shouldve.
PAT: 18 Guessed a whole lot
TS: 15.4
AA: 17.13

Yup, I did a little better this time but felt that the RC was really easy, for PAT I got lucky. Well will be taking another test by Thursday.

Mask, if you're in Cali, hit me up. JP. Please, don't.

As for your DAT, don't worry. I was scoring 15-16 for bio, g/ochem for kaplan. PAT was a different story. I was getting 28-30. Math... well i'm a math nerd so that doesn't count. I also used TopScore and Achiever. DO ALL OF THEM. i had about 2 weeks to study so i couldn't do all of the topscore and achiever practices. Concentrate on the topscore and achiever PATs. Kaplan's pat is too easy. on test day, i received bio22 ochem21 gchem21 qr28 rc20 pat20 i was pissed at my qr and pat scores but what can i do? you'll be fine. do well on test day and get that fantasy gf of yours off your mind.

I hope you were joking about being pissed at your QR score--thats a great score--not perfect, but a very nice score.

Took another pracitce test:

Bio: 17
GC: 14 🙁
OC: 18 🙂
RC: 16 🙁
QR: 16
PAT: 19
TS: 16.40 🙁
AA: 16:13 AAAARGGGHH.

Can't wait to take the actual test just so I can see how good or bad I am in a real test situation.

With two days left till the test and getting scores like the following won't cut it:

AA: 16
PA: 15
QR: 16
RC: 17
Bio: 15
GC: 17
OC: 15
TS: 16

This was the DAT Achiever test, much harder--had to guess a lot.

Those are pretty decent achiever scores buddy. The one thing that's difficult to realize is that these programs just tell you what to study (make you feel dumb), and they don't give you much confidence. With two days left you should be done with practice tests, and just lightly review material you're shakey on. The day before the exam just RELAX (work out, hot tub, sauna, etc.) You need to let your thoughts organize. After doing the achiever, I'm sure you will see consistency in the questions on the real DAT. You'll hit a groove, trust me. Good luck and keep us updated.

My only concern is your QR and RC score. Achiever is harder in the other areas, but QR and RC is pretty dead on IMO. Just becareful. gl.

there are some good tips on SDN if you search the site that address how to do well on the RC portion. i would suggest that. if you can't find it PM me and i will tell you how kaplan teaches you to approach the RC portion.

Well, I did okay--lower end though. Boy I was stressed out during the test--gagging and twitching.

PA:17
AA: 17
TS: 17
BIO: 17
GC: 18
OC: 17
RC: 17

So what do you guys think?

My BCP GPA: 3.85
Science GPA: 3.91
Non-Science GPA: 3.88
Cummulative: 3.90

not too bad but not good hopefull you have some ecs and lots of good lors good luck

was this the final list of schools you decided on?

Arizona
Nova
Louisville
Univ. detroit mercy
Univ of michigan
Creighton
New Jersey
NYU

wait this can't be right, b/c UNC isn't on here. can you post the schools again?

OK if no one else wants to Ill be honest with you. Odds are really slim. Slimmer than an anorexic Mary Kate Olsen. Your app was late as it is and now your DAT isnt stunning by any schools averages. Even your state school (UNC if I remember correctly) wouldnt have a hard time turning you down. Id say study and retake the DAT next year and apply early. Your GPA looks good but you just got too much against. Good luck though on whatever you choose.

Here are the schools I applied to:

Univ of michigan
Creighton
New Jersey
NYU
Buffalo
UNC
Upenn
pittsburgh

Here are my ECs: I attend East Carolina University and my major is Neuroscience. I am part of Tribeta (Biology Honor Society), Chemistry Club, Neuroscience club, East Carolina University Ambassador (which takes a lot of time). I volunteer at an elementary school as a tutor and as a mentor. I also volunteer at a hospital as a patient transporter and receptionist. I have conducted two research studies--one of which was a pilot study for my senior thesis. I was premed that switched to pre-dental last semester. I originally wanted to be a neurosurgeon but I don't want a hectic life and don't want the responsibility of someone's life in my hands. My application was turned in on Sept. 28th. I am also a freelance stock photographer and a paid yearbook photographer. Currently taking 17 credit hours.

Good idea. Worst case scenario, you reapply next year to your new state-sponsored dental school with all of the resident preferences it allows. Plan on retaking the DAT for the next admissions cycle if you don't get in this year.
