I am from Oz, happy to answer any questions that U have for Oz Med School

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
is there a website that lists the medical schools, plus the requirements, thanks

There you go someone has already answered my question for me!!!

cheers

ENTSteven, you'll likely get a load of questions given more background -- where are you from (before Oz), why are you there (Flinders?), what do think of your program, the students and the city? Do you manage the Medical Notes Online site?

I plan to go to school there this winter -- have applied to USyd, Flinders, and UQ. There are a bunch of other applicants and some grads on this forum. Fresh views are always a help!

Hi Pitman,

I am from Adelaide and flinders is the uni on the other side of town. We adelaide graduates rarely see flinders, which is a pity, anyway it is as you know a four year course and have to learn alot of things in it!!

I am not being a snob but it is very hard to learn medicine in 4 years, we have studied for 6 years in the adelaide university!

but I am saying the graduates are not good, but certainly there is knowledge deficit, even the older flinders people say that (old system - same as ours that is)

But by all means if you do come to adelaide, contact me!!

Yes I manage that site, it is the notes of mine and my friend's

Heyz do you know anything about university of melbourne ? There's barely any info about it here. How does it rank compared to the other UNIs ?
🙂

Yes you are right!! that we do in 6, but in australia usually people do a science degree which is 3 years, and most of what you learn is not much!!!

believe me I have been through it.

Science will help but not by much. because they do single focus, eg biology. basic science incoorporates a wide variety of subjets, a basic sceince does not cover it all.

if you come to adelaide you will know, most consultants and even those at flinders dont even want their own graduate they would rather prefer ade uni.

+ adelaide is also PBL, which is the biggest mistake anyone can make, we were the guinea pigs, and we hated it. most useless way of learning. tell you to learn everything or anything that you like, BS, one needs some direction of learning to begin with and armed with some basic knowledge.

anyway hope i have not offended anyone!

I dont think Melbourne admits many North Americans. The only programs that do are the 4 yr graduate entry programs such as Flinders, Sydney and Queensland. Thus, nobody talks about it much here.

They do accept 10, but the school's not discussed as much here, probably because it's a 4.5 year program. More data below.
