I am not getting anything... No interviews

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I would guess your GPA is what's holding you back...how about your ECs?

I think taking the DAT in September held it back a bit. Although e-submitting early is a good thing, the time in which you have everything in is ultimately what determines when you hear back from schools.

I would give it a couple weeks, its a long drawn out process and its something that makes a lot of people here anxious

I have strong EC and letters of rec.
My gpa sucks ass.. but would that keep me from being way not competitive?
I mean my gpa without counting repeat courses are 3.2

Do my stats even have a chance of getting 1 interview?
I think I can pull it off if I get a interview....

AA: 23
TS: 22
PAT: 20

GPA: 3.05
sGPA: 2.9

lol... you're almost like a carbon copy of me. i got in last year with almost the same scores but a tad bit higher, a 24 AA 24 TS and 21 PAT and almost identical GPA. First time applicant, no masters, no post bac. I applied to 15 schools, and got interviews to 6 including a couple of my top choices before i withdrew to the rest because interviews were piling up and getting expensive (and before they got the chance to reject me :meanie:). I was shooting for just 1-2 interviews and had I known I would have gotten so many I would have saved the extra money. My apps were complete late september too. There is still hope, don't give up. Many schools including most of the big private schools interview a lot after December 1st. My last interview was for mercy and they made me plan it like 4 months in advance into the early spring. Bright side is that you've only gotten 1 rejection, so you're still in consideration.

I didn't have 5000+ hours of shadowing, just a good enough amount 50<x<100. ECs were slightly below normal, nothing too flashy. I think it may have been my background that intruiged them. All it takes is something in your application to catch their attention and make them look past that GPA. If adcoms see a kid with a 4.0 and a 17 AA, usually negative thoughts start to pop up about him/her (grade inflation? how will they do on a much more demanding exam ie NBDE?). If they see a kid with a 3.0 and a 24AA, then they get intruiged and interested with what kind of story the kid may have to tell, especially if the personal statement is very compelling too.

With your stats, I'd say you're almost a shoe in for at least an interview at BU and Tufts.

I also agree that you'll be getting some interviews with your great DAT score (especially if you applied to 14 schools and if they were chosen for the right reasons after research).

I think they were holding your file until your DAT score comes in, and usually it takes about 3-4 weeks from the time you take your DAT until schools to receive it and re-review your file. So i'll give it couple of weeks but i bet you'll hear something before this month is over.

Best luck and kill that interview when you get one! (make sure to have a very good reason to defend your low GPA)

I actually spoke with Dr. Kasberg (Dean of Admissions at IUSD) last week when he did his annual IU-Bloomington visit to speak with pre-dental students 1-on-1. I just switched to pre-dental as a junior, so I had a ton of questions for him, one being "what are the interview cutoffs for IUSD?" He replied that the lower limit for sGPA is a 3.3, and overall GPA is less important, but an absolute lower limit of 3.0. He emphasized that in almost no cases will they even interview anyone not meeting either of these criteria unless they have an amazing resume or some sort of complicating circumstance(s) that contributed to the low GPAs.

He also told me that if you have a sGPA of 3.3 and overall of 3.0, then DAT scores of 19 PAT, 19 AA, and 18 or more RC will get you an interview in almost any case. Apparently, they're asses about the RC, and very few are interviewed with an RC below 18.

My recommendation is to call them and ask why they didn't grant you an interview. Likely, they'll point to your GPAs. If you spend the next year taking some random science courses or other courses, you could feasibly raise your GPAs above the cutoff. Your DAT scores are already sufficient for IU interviews. Doing this would make you an excellent applicant for the next cycle.

I'll probably never post on SDN again, and I have absolutely no idea what possessed me to do so tonight when I have an orgo exam tomorrow.

So, um, bye!!

awesome post man. Hey OP, don't worry you'll have some soon enough, I got 2 interviews last year and my DAT wasn't even that great. Scary thing is, this time last yr I had a BU interview. This yr, they haven't even invited me hha I dunno I'm stressin too. Only applied to like 6 schools this time around. Let's see :/

What happened with BU? and if you got rejected, how long after dec 1st cuz i see you had a november interview....

Now, Buckethead's post was a damn good one. It wasn't just blinding encouragement overdose like those of many others here, but also included hard to obtain, unconventional, and most important - useful information.

I think his story provides a plausible reason as to why people with science gpa's under 3.3 seems to have such bad luck getting interviews, even with high DAT scores.

I haven't heard back from anywhere either so you shouldn't worry too much about it.

hey guys
I wouldn't worry that if you have below 3.3 GPA and 21+ DAT
my GPA is 3.25, DAT 22/22/21
I have already gotten three interviews
Nova, Columbia and Michigan
So, just wait a bit more, you will get interviews too
Ninster, you really should check with BU
I know you are Canadian ( i am too)
I phoned BU a month ago, they didn't have my DAT (even though it says under review under aadsas)
yeah, i don't know, so far I got nothing from NYU, BU or USC

just curious, how long ago did you submit your AADSAS?

It was in friggin' FEB! Can you believe? When I did get a chance to talk to them about why I didn't get in 'oh your stats are good, so is GPA, it's what we need/require, but too many people applied'...

when did you get your invite last yr? maybe you'll get one around hte same time too

I'm on the same boat but a little more balanced.. anyone recommend i retake the DAT for next cycle if i don't get in this cycle? i have one more semester left but science gpa doesn't seem to be going up by that much the way things are going. :-/

AA: 20
TS: 21
PAT: 20

GPA: 3.3
sGPA: 3.1

Oh and I got rejected from Indiana too, and waiting to hear from 17 others.

My application was sent out July 17th, third batch
However, since Bu and USC didn't have my DAT score until last month (because they couldn't download it)...i do not think i will get interview from them before Dec

it's because you took the DAT on sept. even though you submitted your APP early, it takes a few weeks for SCORES to be sent out and for schools to look at your app. some schools are fast and some are slow. just wait.

I wouldn't retake the DAT. Is that your first try?? You're DAT is not whats holding you back. It may be sGPA if the rest of your app. is solid.
