I received a letter from Wingate today informing me that I was put on the alternate list. Wingate was my safety school! I am so let down, I feel like I am going to cry. I regret turning my application in so late, I could kick myself - and I feel like my gpa from a million years ago is going to follow me around forever... 🙁

Don't be sad. Look on the bright side-- being put on the alternate list is one step higher than being rejected. 🙂 It'll be alright. Best wishes to you! :luck:

Did you apply to any other schools?

Thanks for the encouragement. I applied to mercer, nova, wingate, campbell and south. I have been waitlisted at mercer as well... I applied late as I said before, and I have a low gpa. I haven't heard from anyone else at all. I guess no news is good news, I haven't been rejected yet-

Try to think positively! Lots of students get pulled off alternate lists each year. I was an alternate student and now I'm almost halfway through pharmacy school. If things don't work out this year, just reapply next year and apply earlier if that was the problem this year. I think being on the alternate list would probably boost your chances next year too.

Don't give up hope. Everything that happens to us happens for a reason, so even if you can't see the master plan right now, just know that it is there and everything will work out in the end.

Take it a day at a time and give yourself a pat on the back for all the hard work you have done so far.

I had to send in my deposit to Wingate because they require it within 10 days but if I eventually get accepted by my first choice, I will be telling Wingate that I won't be attending there. Wish me, and you luck!!!

Thanks so much again to everyone for the encouragement. I have been so down about this process lately. It's so stressful! Anyway, I really appreciate everyone's support, thanks again.

As another poster stated, a "waitlist" is better than a flat-out rejection. I only applied to two schools (because of geography and family committments) and I haven't been accepted or waitlisted at either. I am trying to stay positive but it isn't necessarily looking good for me so at least there is still hope for you in that they were impressed enough with you to keep you in the running.

Is there a way for you to determine where you are on the waitlist at either school? I am sure that some spaces will open up as students decide that they want to go other places. Keep your chin up as I am trying to do!

The BEST never RESTS!
don't feel bad & don't give up. 👍

I know what you are going through. My science GPA from undergrad is kicking me in the butt. I have to ask if you have thought of any ways to improve your GPA? I am asking myself the same question, and I think I would basically have to retake all those hours and hope for the best.
Anyhow, here's hoping a round of good news is on the way for you!

Remember that most students applied to more than 1 schools, and I'm pretty sure you are not the only one that consider Wingate as their safety school. So, there is a chance of them not going to Wingate after getting acceptance to the other school. Cheer up, I know this one guy who get a call of acceptance one day before the pharmacy school started because the student who's supposed to go to that pharmacy school changed his mind.

I actually tried desperately to raise my gpa by doing great in all the prereqs that I recently took. As it turnes out, it didn't raise it as much as I had hoped. My science gpa is a 3.7, but my overall is like a 2.9, not quite what most schools want to see!
The last 32 credits that I took have been ALL A's but it hardly raised it at all (because I have over 190 credits.) Have you been accepted anywhere? How low is your science gpa?

Don't fret....I got into Campbell back in December and rejected by Wingate who was my last choice....go figure! Maybe you'll get into your 1st choice too. They all want so many different things.

I applied to Campbell also and haven't heard anything from them... congratulations on your acceptance. I have my fingers crossed for you with UNC!

Oh, the science GPA is a 2.6. No, that's not a typo. The non-science is a 3.6. Of course, that does nothing for pharmacy school.
I have had one interview (because that particular school interviews everyone who has a complete file), and three rejections. There's always next year... 🙁

I was in the same boat as most people posting on here several years ago. I applied and due to my low GPA, I was denied acceptance. Instead of waiting another year and applying again, I decided to take 2 years and change my whole application. I started volunteering at the red cross, got a pharmacy tech license, and I am about to finish my masters in chemistry. I didn't leave anything to chance and it paid off. I might have overdone it or maybe not...I'll never know, but what I do know is that I will be going to UOP next year and possibly if I get lucky I might end up at UCSF. My advice, don't just do the same thing...do something spectacular....make that admissions committees' head spin with all your accomplishments. That is how you get accepted. By the way....I hate chemistry...these past two years have been torture.

I did the same thing. I graoduated undergrad with a 2.9 and taking classes over was not going to do anything to my GPA so I did a one year masters in biology and got into my top choice school. Plus when I'm done I will have three very diverse degrees!!! Keep at it and don't give it up! The committee will see that!

Any word from Wingate? I just forfeited my seat at Wingate last week for another school. I'd imagine other people are doing the same at about this time too. I hope I don't regret it. The school seemed pretty badass. 😳

Yeah, she already got pulled off the list! Oh you know you'll regret not hanging out with us next year. Seriously though, I hope you don't regret it too and I don't think you will, however, I do agree that the school does seem pretty badass. 😎

I'm having a bad day myself. Been checking the mail everyday for the past 3.5 weeks since my interview for my acceptance letter from VCU and still nothing. I just found out today that another person who interviewed on the same day received his acceptance letter last week! As of right now, VCU is my only hope. I applied to 7 schools, been officially rejected by 4, and haven't heard anything from 2. Life just plain sucks for me right now. I feel like I've hit rock bottom...hell I don't even feel optimistic about VCU anymore. I resigned my Assistant Branch Manager position at Chevy Chase Bank to pursue this so now I am broke (no income but a ton of application and education expenses) and have almost no hope. I will be 26 in 2 months so if I am fortunate enough to get in this Fall, by the time I graduate and begin a career, I'll be 30. I am completely useless....no boyfriend, no job, no schools want me....the list just goes on.

Sorry, I just need to vent. Thanks to anyone who cares enough to read this.

I know how you feel...And unfortunately there is nothing I can say that will make you feel better. The situation of waiting by the mailbox full of anxiety is something I hope just makes us stonger pharmacists. You haven't heard from VCU yet so there's no reason to give up hope yet. I know that doesn't help but it is the truth...Good luck! I hope you get in!!!!! :luck:

Hey Delphi,

Thanks for your encouragement. I will wait til the end of this week since they said 2-4 weeks and this is week 4. After that, I assume it's all over. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted and best of luck!

good luck to all of you.....i have a 2.6 science and 3.0 overall...and i've gotten lucky in my mind with 2 acceptances and just finished another interview.....so i dont know what the hell they're lookin for, just keep your chin up and i'm sure something will work out for you.

Do you live near Wingate right now? Are you moving? Is anyone moving there from far away like me? I am in New York and I was just wondering how people are managing their moves and where they are planning on moving to (the town of Wingate sure seems SMALL...)

This is very surprising news for me becuase i am about the same GPA and I was planning on changing my major. What schools did you get accepted from? Did you have a something extraordinary (eg. decent pcat score or masters degree or smth)??? It feels good hearing someone with the same grade point average as you get into pharm schools?

bobby1987, i got into VCU (in-state) and South. Just interviewed @ Mercer but I wont hear from them til May (boo). No word yet from UF or Auburn.
i got 98th on my pcat, though, so i did have that going for me.

I live in East Tennessee so I live about 5 hrs away from Wingate. I plan on moving to Wingate or Monroe in early July. I don't really mind that Wingate is small. Its probably actually good for studying, but Charlotte is only about 30 min away and its a pretty nice city. I'm just happy to get out of TN for a change.

I am a city girl, but I wanted to go to school in a somewhat small town (Wingate is REALLY small, but I think it'll be good for studying!) I am really looking forward to the move actually. It's kind of scary because I don't know anyone, but it's exciting also. See you there! 🙂

Same here. I think that the small-town atmosphere will be good for studying. I can't wait to move either, but I'm getting anxious about it since my husband won't be able to move with me. Other than that, I'm really excited!

Have you guys gotten your user name and pin for the student discussion board, etc? Some of the current students are selling books that we will need, and others are trying to match up with roommates.

Yeah I've gotten mine. I don't need a roommate, but I did talk to one girl about her house that she's selling. I assume since its a pretty new school that the books that they're selling will be the ones we'll use next year. I would hate to buy a book from someone and it turn out to be the wrong book.

I haven't gotten a username or pin yet. When did you guys get yours? Just out of curriosity, how much is that girl selling her house for? I am thinking about buying a house as well. I can't decide whether or not it would be better than renting. I go back and forth...

I talked to one of the students that is selling his books, and he said that they will be using the same books (he's a P1 now). But you know, at the interview, the student guide said that they usually have several copies of each book available for students to use if they do not or can not buy the books.

I think I spoke with the same student who is selling her house. 🙂

I know what you mean about GPA from the past. I have credits from as far back as 94 when I wasn't serious about much of anything. I hated entering the classes into pharmcas, because even though since I've gone back to school I've had almost all A's and B's, my GPA still looks lower because of old grades from a decade ago.

University of Southern Nevada has an option where they will only consider grades from the past 5 years. I thought about applying there and asking for that, but I would have had to retake calculus, which I did well in but spent a ton of time on. Plus their application fee was $125 and I live on the other side of the country, so I ended up not applying there.

Good luck to you. I haven't been accepted anywhere yet and I'm worried now. What can you do though?

I was accepted in Feb. and I got my username and pin towards late March I think...I don't know. It came with papers for a physical and immunization and maybe the white coat measurement thing. You just got accepted not too long ago so I wouldn't worry about not having it yet.
She's selling her house for around 90 something thousand. Its fairly new, but it isn't that big. I like it though, but I'm not in charge of buying the house. I've also been looking online at houses in the Wingate and Monroe area, and I've found some nice ones, but I haven't had a chance to go check them out yet. I think buying a house instead of renting has both pros and cons, but in my situation the pros outway the cons. End the end, you aren't losing much if any money on buying a house (chances are you'll actually gain something). When you rent, you don't get that money gone. Rent around Wingate is about 500-700 bucks. So say 500 x 12= 6,000 a year. If you only stay 3 yrs thats 18,000. Four years- 24,000. Thats a lot less than a house, but you never get that money back. If you get a house you can sell it when you move and get your money back.
However, if you don't get a house, there are a lot of nice apartments around with fitness centers and swimming pools and you don't have to worry about mowing. (I hate to mow 😡 ) If my house plans fall through I would be happy to live in an apartment too. I've lived in one for 3 years already and its worked out nice, but I'm sure my new landlord will be stricter (more strict?😕 ) than my current one (who is my dad. haha). I'm so excited about moving I can't stand it.
