I, an incoming freshmen at UT, didn't sign up for many programs - can I still be a comp. applicant?

I did not do my research for UT since I did not think I would be going there this fall, but here I am.

There are many programs that I did not sign up for that I wish I had enrolled in, including:

- Biology Scholars Program (Take advanced classes for Bio throughout your undergrad)

-Plan II Honors (Really nice liberal arts program that would have allowed me to double major, make closer connections with professors, and to become more open-minded and well rounded)

It is too late to sign up for these now. Will not enrolling in these take me out of the running for T10 med schools?

No, but if your goal is to only get into T10 medical schools you should reconsider premed altogether.

lol this is the most college freshman thing I've read all week

-"advanced classes for bio throughout undergrad"---> only important if that is something you are interested in doing
-"Plan II Honors"--> I don't know what this is and neither will anyone reviewing your medical school application. Double majoring is a pointless waste of energy unless you are genuinely interested in getting a second degree

Go to school, get As, have diverse and meaningful experiences, destroy the MCAT, be a productive researcher, maybe get into """top 10""" program

edit: also have fun

You're better off majoring in something easy like Psychology if you want the highest GPA possible, which is what will matter most next to the MCAT. Graduate with a 4.0 (3.9 because of those pesky premed classes) and you're set. Don't doubt me. You're welcome.

PlanII is a program you would have had to apply to when applying to UT. You can’t apply for it at this point.
One thing you CAN still get into is called FRI (Freshman Research Initiative). Ask your advisor about it when you go to orientation. It doesn’t require a lot of extra time commitment your first year ( just an orientation to being a useful and effective part of a research lab) but it will get you in to an opportunity to do research all through your college years.
Your goal during freshman year is to adjust to college and make a good transition to being a good college student.

Plan II admissions is separate from UT admissions, not something you just “sign up” for. You would have had to submit an application to the program when you were applying to college.
BSP is also not something you just “sign up” for - you would have received an email in February if you were eligible to apply, and it looks like the deadline has just passed.
Either way, if you regret not having submitted an application to these programs, learn from it and don’t hesitate to pursue other competitive goals in the future.
