I transferred to a new school and did not know the culture around the chemistry labs. I ended up not being allowed into my first lab because of an ultra specific ways prelabs had to be done(no this was not in the course it was assumed to be covered last semester, no written materials or examples to support it). I accidentally signed up for the hard section that was graded differently than every other lab too. I could not cry so much in the lab because I spent half my time consoling freshmen.

It took half the semester to recover from an F. My strict GTA instructor, was not helpful at all and I put hours into my lab work trying to explain every detail to myself to make up for that. After so many sleepless nights and anxiety meds I was able to get a C+!!! IN GEN CHEM II !! IN THE WORST CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT IN THE STATE!!

Is this my lowest grade for a 1 credit lab or overall in general? yes. Should I work 10x as hard for my next labs in addition to asking for "assumed" expectations? for sure. Do I need to retake? I don't know. I went through hell and I'm now happy.

I am talking with the dean of chemistry to help fix the structural issues of this lab and advocated for transfer students; the reason we were doing poorly in chem labs was not because our community college sucked---its because there is no orientation nor clear guidelines to allow us to succeed. Dean will implement my suggested changes(almost all of them actually). So happy something good came out of this nighmare situation!
