I can't seem to just stick with one major and follow through?

I'm a sophomore in college, and since the beginning of my freshmen year, I must have changed my major over 20 times. I've contemplated engineering, math, history, business, biology, chemistry--you name it I've done it. I thought I finally would be content with one of my major, until I got bored with it and switched it to art. Again, now I'm considering a different major.

Why can't I stick with one thing? There isn't a specific subject I'm interested in to study for 4 years, and I honestly don't think a 'general studies' major exists out there.

I'm tired of taking useless pre-req classes, and I don't want to be stuck in college trying to decide on a major..

What to do?

double/triple major? 😛

seriously, this is a tough question you have to do some soul searching to see what you like

btw, i wouldnt tell this to a romantic partner, they'll just see it as a commitment issue

Pick the one with the smallest credit requirement (usually humanities or a foreign language that you already know). Then you can use electives to be as academically schizophrenic as you want!

First of all quit trying to pick a major; you are obviously clueless at this point.

Focus on your gen. ed. requirements until you grow up enough to decide what you want to do.

There is nothing wrong with being undecided; but on that point....WHY ARE YOU HERE? Have you decided on medicine, or are we another of your temporary ideas?

I'm two classes away from finishing my general ed., and I know exactly want to do with my life. I want to be a doctor. I love the human body, I love anatomy, e.t.c

If this were true you'd be a BIO major like thousands of other pre-meds and enjoy it.

Yet you clearly stated in your 1st post that you can't find anything you enjoy....make up your mind; you are giving me a headache.

I would see which major would be the easiest to transition into with the gen eds you've completed. Also consider choosing one which allows for the most elective room, so that you can possibly also take a few extra classes from other areas of study or higher level sciences.

Boom. Problem solved.

Does your school allow you to create your own, interdisciplinary/special major? If so, this could be an option for you. It would allow you to design a major that pulls from multiple (usually around 3) major subjects you are interested in. Just a thought.

OH MY GOD! i was in the same boat a year ago... i just sat down with myself for a whole summer thinking about what i love, what i am good at, and what "WAS" my dream that i lost along the way

I really do feel what you're going through but it needs a moment of clarity so you can decide on your own. don't go asking people around what do they think, it will only complicate things. it's going to be hard to figure it out on your own but it's worth the try coz if you end up in the wrong major you're gonna live 2 very miserable years!

Good luck :xf:

There is.. I ended up doing this because I couldn't decide on a major (changed too many times!) and it's taking me forEVER to graduate because I couldn't just pick something and stick with it!!!

psyc, prepharm, prenurse, bio, prenurse, surgical tech (complete!), psyc, neuro, GENERAL STUDIES.

I was in a similar boat as yourself, so I took some time off. I felt like I was ultimately wasting both mine and my parents money/time by jumping from one major to another and also switching schools a couple of times.

By taking time off, I was able to work, I was able to shadow a doctor quite a bit and also focus on what was important without risking my grades dropping due to complacency. I'm headed back now to finish up a degree in molecular/cellular biology and really looking forward to it and getting on with medical school.

There's no shame in taking some time off to get your priorities straight, it's better than possibly risking your grades and also showing a lack of commitment.
