Ok, I am from NC. My top two choices are UNC and UMB (Maryland). I got accepted into UMB, and is waitlisted at UNC. UNC also gives me another option of attending their partnership program at a small city 4 hours away from Chapel Hill, Elizabeth City. The classes at Elizabeth City are taught through video conferencing from Chapel Hill. Since this program is only one year old, I am not sure if it will establish the same reputation as Chapel Hill. I am concerned about the reputation because I want to do clinical. It matters where I go when I apply for residency or a hospital clinical job. I am torn. Tuition is definitely a WHOLE LOT cheaper in NC, but I don't want to feel left out. Does that make any sense?

UNC doesn't give me enough time to respond, so I cannot find the time to visit Elizabeth City. *sigh*...I don't know what to do.

Does the sister program in Elizabeth city still offer state tuition? Will you have interaction with UNC faculty and would you still do rotations w/ UNC students? What will your degree say, UNC or sister program? Would you have the option of transferring to main campus from sister program to UNC down the road?

Enough questions, but my advice would be to go to the sister program at UNC and see how the waitlist situation w/ UNC works out. Both UNC and UMD have great reputations and I don't think being at the sister program will hurt you in anyway for competing for residencies. Honestly the residency programs aren't that competitive unless you are trying to get into the handful of prestigious/competitive programs. Even still given you would be doing a sister program, I'm guessing that you could do rotations in Chapel Hill or w/ any other UNC faculty and still use them as a resource for recommendation letters for residency interviews.

Secondly given reputation of UNC I'd guess that sister program would be considered reputable as well. Lastly the in-state tuition is much more advantageous than paying out-of-state and dealing w/ all of the other expenses moving to an entire different area. I guess Baltimore is about 5-7hrs away from Chapel Hill so drive may be comparable to sister program but if you are saving a lot on in-state tuition and find yourself happy in NC than I would stay in NC. You'll really appreciate it when you have to pay of your loans. However, I'd just ask as many questions as possible to UNC about sister program to make sure decision isn't solely based on financial motivators. Good Luck!!

Tuition is the same at the partner program. Students at the partner program has one counselor from unc, and interact with the rest of the faculty through videoconferencing. We cannot transfer back to the main campus, and it is either one or the other (partner program or waitlist at the main campus). My degree will be UNC with an acknowledgement to the partnership program, and yes same rotation as unc students.
I have been beating myself ta death thinking about this. Thank you for your advice!! Keke, I have to decide by tonite. Wish me luck.

I would either go to UMB or remain waitlisted at UNC-- The partner program sounds like a major disadvantage in many aspects.

I am sure it has its own pros and cons, but I did decide to put myself on the waiting list and see. Wow Thaliagoo, which school are you going to next year?
