WHen should I retake it to be still eligible for the match and get interviews

So Feb20 is the rank order. If I retake mid december, i get my retake score back mid january- thats a month from the rank order, any chance for interviews during that time period ?

I know I should apply next year and take some time to study but still wondering if theres a chance for this yr

What is your speciality and what was your step 1

Did you not study for step 2?

There are close to no interviews given from mid January to when rank lists are due. If your application is strong enough without a step 2 to be getting interviews you may receive some as long as you don't submit the failed score. You'd be playing a dangerous game, though, as many programs require your step 2 to rank you (so you could have interviews and then not be ranked anywhere anyway).
My experience with program directors is that "year of graduation" is one of the most important factors for going through applications. If you could take a year off and do research projects while also passing CK (well) I bet you'd have more luck.

Your chances of getting interviews based on your Step 2 score being available (if you get it back in January) is essentially zero. If you are a US medical student and did well on Step 1, this may not matter.

You will want to have Step 2CK passed prior to rank lists, as you'll want to make sure folks know that you have passed CK at that time.

Given that your score has come out after ERAS, I wouldn't re-send your scores or anything - just don't mention it, and say when you're re-taking it if asked during interviews (or that you took it in November or whatever if you're actively interviewing).

of course this is assuming that you're not a IMG/FMG. If you want more help on chances of matching/getting interviews, we're giong to need more details, as given that you're thinking about when to apply, it makes me thing you're more likely not studying in the US currently. But to answer just the question above in 3 the lines above.

You posted the same question in the Psych thread back in August. So, that changes things -- the fail is on your transcript when you apply / applied. I agree with others -- there won't be any new interview offers in January. If you're going to get interviews, you need to do so with the failed CK, and presumably PD's will assume that you will pass it before ranking. Of note, although the ROL deadline is Feb 20, many programs will finalize their lists before then.
