Last year I dealt with a lot of family issues and some major bumps in the road of life. My gpa took a tumble and I happened to get a D in a chemistry class. It affected how I felt about myself because I prided myself so much on my high GPA at that time.
I retook the class this year and struggled through it, and again, got a D. I was shocked because I really tried hard and studied as much as I could and did every possible homework and extra credit available. I think my high anxiety toward chemistry and knowing I effed up the first time scared me prematurely and factored into how I attained a D... again.

I feel like this is one hurdle I can't overcome.
I have harder chemistry classes in fall and frankly, I'm worried sick.

I don't want to have to retake this class a third time; just knowing I may have to retake it gives me huge anxiety.

Constructive comments are needed, I don't need rude bs.

Hi.

What chemistry class was it? Was it general chem? Is it a pre-req for any of the upper lvl chem classes you'll be taking next semester? If it is, then I doubts they'll let you take them since most (if not all) schools require at least C in a pre-req classes. So you said that you studied hard and did every possible problem? Well, did you solve them right? Did you have problems understanding the material? From my personal experience, you can't go though chemistry without understanding it, so since you stated that you studied hard, and it apparently did not work, maybe you should have asked for some tutoring?

A "D" is better than an "F". I have a friend that got an "F". Just think how he feels. Hope that cheers you up🙂

lol... I doubt that would cheer anyone up.. D and F both suck.. Just because a D is better than an F doesn't mean you can feel better.
OP, my advice would be to avoid making any more C's and D's from now on. I would also do whatever it takes to get an A the third time. Just imagine what adcoms would think if they saw someone who couldn't get an A on a third retake.

Retake it with a very light course load (maybe even spend the summer taking just that one class), and make sure that the professor you're retaking it with gives the highest GPA for that class out of all the professors in your school. If the class invovles lab reprorts, find someone who got an A in the class and get their lab reports to use a reference (notice that I said reference, not 'copy'). Use your school's tutors if they have them and consider hiring a private tutor. If it's really just one class that's giving you trouble than spare no expense in kicking it's ass.

examine your study habits and what you call "studying as much as you could" and "trying really hard." No offense, but i got a couple Cs and looking back i know EXACTLY why i got them. because i didn't study that hard and did stupid things. if you are really studying as hard as you can, then you definitely have a problem with chemistry, but how are you looking on other science classes?

and sorry for your anxiety, but you will have to take it again. a lot of medical schools won't accept <C in prereqs.

Try to calm down, because anxiety is a bitch and it will screw with your head, and your ability to make a good grade. Try going over everything your going to cover in the class during the summer, and try to teach yourself as much as you can so next time you take it youre at least half way to an A.
Also try to figure out what it is that you are doing wrong or not doing right. Maybe your troubles stem not from the difficulty of the material, but from your studying habits or anxiety.

Yeah, which chem is it? You're not in a major that requires more than the minimum chem for med school, are you? If you are, maybe you can switch to a major that isn't chem-heavy?
