lower tier residency
2 fellowships
applied to all posted jobs in US and Canada (path outlines, CAP, career MD), about 50-60
Only got a response from 3 places, 2 to say since I'm not canadian they have to exhaust their search before moving on to non-citizens
one interview, one job offer
starting >200 and 6 weeks vacation
desirable location and nice group
extremely relieved and very happy with the result
overall opinion, I got lucky in a very weak market

Congrats! Now you get to try to keep it. You will not find much job security in this field sadly. Good luck!

Awesome! Sounds like you earned it.

LADuckOO, thanks for making me spit tea all over my keyboard. Pretty funny name and avitar.

Congrats to poster that got job.

I wish posters would say why the position opened up. Practice growing? Retirement? Pathologist heading off to prison? etc

Congratulations and best of luck in your new position.

Also, thank you for posting. The tenure of this board frequently implies that no one is ever successful in securing employment.

No one in his or her sound mind would imply "no one". Please re-read OP. Thanks for engaging us though. Hope you will be a positive force in improving our specialty.

nice.....

A lot of people say this but I don't really know how true it is - it's all perception. If you go into it with the opinion that you are going to have to be lucky, then of course when you do get the job it will seem so. But it's not really luck. Luck may relate to the specific timing of that particular job in that location having an opening, but not the fact that you got hired into a good position.
