Hi All,

I received a letter from BU saying they received my application and that 600 in toefl and 85 in NBDE are requirements. If your credentials support the requirements, BU would call you for an Interview blah blah blah....

Is this the kind of letter that every one is getting from BU to let know that the application is complete?

Hi,
when I applied I directly got the letter for interview from BU, no other confirmation letter. It took abt 3 weeks before they sent this.but I have read other posts from people who got a confirmation letter like yours before the interview call. maybe you can call them and ask abt your application status.but you can do that only on wednesdays becoz thatz when they answer Qtns rgding Adv standing.

This is very clear. They mentioned minimum scores required and all that stuff so thought they thought my scores are poor.

Don't be so pessimistic and jump to conclusions.you are surely eligible for interview if you meet the minimum rqmts ie;85 for NDBE and 250 for TOEFL.they will surely call you soon, I think it depends on when you applied.as you know people who applied earlier gets their interview sooner. It is just a matter of time before you get yours. But still you can call them and ask abt your application status.
GOOD LUCK...

I have 90 in NBDE, Good GPA and have few marks less than 250 in Toefl. Thats why I am worried. Also on the website of BU they mentioned that 85 and 250 are suggested minimums. Would they go with it strictly for just 3 marks?. Thats what is worrying me. Anyway I would think it would be their loss if they did not call us. As all of us here deserve a seat inspite of slight variations in scores. Wish you all good luck.

Why dont you re-take TOEFL real quick, I am sure you'll do better this time and you can send that score ASAP.

You consider those scores 'poor'??

*meggs sneaks away before anyone notices her*

dds_fight,
Those scores are perfect, except for TOEFL.as henna said ,why don't you retake Toefl?or maybe you can talk to someone in Admissions office abt your situation and ask their advice before taking toefl again.if that would improve your chances I think you should definitely do that.just my opinion, hope you are not offended.....

Hey,
all you guys who are browsing the forum n have applies to BU can call the office of admissions today.
Usually they answer on wednesdays but the guy at office checked status of my application.
best of luck!!

I took Toefl again last week and I was unfortunate. I had to cancel my test as I was put into a seperate room( Due to the main room being full) and there was some lady's office attached to this room with a glass dorr seperating. She kept talking on phone and banging on the key board. I told her curteously once and she came back and told me that it was her office and she needs to do her business. In the middle of the test, during break, I tried complaining to the co-ordinator and they gave all kinds of ear plugs etc... Finally I got so bugged, cancelled and came out. Apparently I can not take the test again during the same month. I am taking it on the 3rd and hope to clear the 250 barrier. To tell the truth this is all killing. They are letting us immigrants all fight and having all the fun (Cant blame them too as there is demand supply gap in favor of supply). But after all this hard work if they dont want to consider because I am short of few marks, that hurts. Anyway life goes on I suppose. I wish you guys all good luck and hope there are enough seats for all of us that we all could lead peaceful lives. Thanks to you all for those encouraging words.

hi dds_fight,
Sorry to hear abt the second attempt, that sucks.and all the best for Nov 3rd.this time I am sure you will pass with flying colors [way above 250].ALL THE BEST AGAIN.
In the meanwhile, maybe you can inform BU abt this.just to make sure that they will consider you.
And don't get dejected ,in the end we all will make it .let us be optimistic and keep our hope high.thatz the best we can do now.🙂

That must have been an extremely upsetting experience!!! You should like call the TOEFL organization and complain about that test center. Maybe you should try taking the test in some other test center.

I do hope all of us in this forum get a spot!!! We deserved it, we sure have worked hard and have done our homeworks!!!

Good luck!!!

I thank you all for the great support. With god's grace I shall cross this milestone of 250 on Nov 3rd. I will inform you how it goes. By the way I did schedule this time in a different center altogether. Few years back I heard that peopl use to be welcomed into BU with 80 + scores. I am surprised the competetion went up so high in a matter of 4 to 5 years inspite of new schools starting and old schools expanding the program. Good luck to you all. We all deserve every bit of it.

You should take up this matter with TOEFL though so it doesnt happen again.
Good Luck.

well, not exactly. 🙁

When I first started to do my homework about schools allowing adv. stn. the first thing I did was write to everysingle school listed on the ADA adv. stn list. Many of them have discontinued the program, a few other require green card, texas school require texas residency and proof of an absolute need to be there, many now require part 2, etc. And a few others just don't advertise or publish their program out in the open, like Temple, you need to call and express your need to go there, in order for them to actually provide you with the information.

I also wrote to everysingle dental school in the states, and the few that actually answered back, stated that they don't offer the adv. stn. chance. 🙁

I was once told by someone, that if you actually visit the AdOff of any dental school and explain them, that you absolutly need to remain living in that city +pity+ (pretty much talk about your family ties, or any other kind of bonding in the city), they might consider your case on an individual basis. But I sure have no proof of that!!!

meggs is right ..

if u call ETS and convince them that the center was noisy, they might be able to rescheudule u within the same month ..

its not impossible for sure, as a couple of years ago someone i knew was allowed to take the test again the same month because the test center was very noisy due to some high schools students were taking some other test and were talking during the test and infact cheating too .. that was an extreme situation ..

it would help if u have someone else making a complaint the same day u took the test ..

I am already scheduled to take the test on Nov 3rd (With new fee of course). But I shall call TOEFL and ask them why I should not get my previous fee back due to the conditions that existed. Thanks for the suggestion.
